I'm like you Rick, finding a handguard to match will be virtually impossible.

Looks like it was inletted with a laser. VERY impressive inletting.

A truly outstanding, fiddle backed, piece of wood.

Gun Parts Corporation , formerly Numrich . Question is who made the stock for them to sell , it doesn't look like Boyds work , the inletting and angles look to nice .

Might give these guys, thecollectorsource.com (http://www.thecollectorsource.com/store/1559021/product/03WHG#), a call. They have some pretty nice looking "new" unissued 03 handguards.

There are probably lots of other sources including custom shops that could make you a matching handguard. I'd first just try to find a nice piece of matching fiddleback walnut stock and go from there.

Is it indeed walnut? never seen a pc. with the striping spaced that close ,I have on Birch and maple though

Way to pretty to put straight grain on top. I would have to take a couple more pictures between front of receiver and front and measure stripes and start hitting the wood guy's for a piece that could be made into top wood. YOU SCORED! Gtek

RU shooter, it's indeed walnut.

dragonrider, I figured to simply use BLO.

Jack Stanley, I have a Boyds "C" stock I'd bought for the rifle but the stock re-inforcing bolts weren't installed. When I got GPC's e-mail on these I bit my lip and ordered one. I'm not a great woodworker and the fact that they had the bolts installed and the stock was finished appealed to me.

The stock might have been made (my guess) in Italy? There was a holographic round sticker inside the bbl channel. Around it's perimeter I could barely makeout the printing but the spelling of the words or parts of words struck me as Italian. Plus it was inspected by "Guiseppe" :-).

dpaultx, thanks for the info. I currently have a couple original walnut '03 handguards on hand but they in no way match. Maybe these guys might have one with some of that fiddleback in it? It'd be nice. JUst checked their website and they''ll be closed until this fall it appears.

I have this M98/08 Brazilian Mauser with a full fiddleback stock AND handguard. They both look like they came out of the same plank.
