As a lot of folks now know, B&M powder measures are going back into production. They should have complete new ones ready by fall (I believe the person I spoke to said). They also have replacement parts available.

Replacement lids are $6.97 + shipping (IIRC). However, I found out that at the autoparts store, Dorman part number 555-095 is a perfect fit. This is a steel freeze plug. The I.D. is just perfect to fit the B&M brass tube and really polishes up nice. Best part, .99 cents.

giving credit to tchepone, he posted here:

have two of them. I wouldn't trade them for any other measure. They are absolutely the best with long stick powders.
I occasionally see someone looking for a brass cover. They seem to get lost. Here's a perfect fit item....Dorman Products, Part Number 565-095. It is a brass frost plug for automotive engines. You should be able to get it at your local parts house for a couple bucks, NAPA, Autozone or whatever brand serves your area.

So now we have both part numbers in the historical record. The auto stores around me didn't have the 565-095 and wanted too much to order it in

I have been working one over for a friend in New Hampshire and the guy I got it from can't find the cap. Eventually he will, but I wanted a cap to go along in the package.

This cap looks pretty nice all polished up but a person could antique it by using a little etching compound, vinegar, lemon juice (anything acidic) to dull/mottle it down, spray it with black and then hit it with some quad-0 steel wool to pull some paint off, then it would match the body of the older powder measures, which typically have some paint worn from the edges.

I am going to leave it up to my friend to decide how he wants it after he gets it. It is harder to go back to polished, than go from polished to antiqued.

I was having issues controlling the glare, so the pics below aren't the best. I get these old B&M's at a good price, go over them and pass them on for what I have in them.

Hi,
I would think a perfect candidate for slow rust bluing!
