View Full Version : Anyone ever tried this in 35 remington?

I loaded up some j word bullets in my 35 the other day, but I'm sure a similar GC boolit will function just as well. Anyhow, I loaded a 116 gr norma match sp bullet over 33 grains of lil gun in my 336, and man was this load sweet. 3000 fps in a 20 inch barrel gave 2200 ft lbs and almost zero drop over 150 yards. The best part was the recoil. Similar performing 180 to 200 gr boolit loads proved quite uncomfortable with a solid butt plate in my 336, but I was ringing an 8 inch plate every shot a 100 yards, stopping only when I ran out of ammo, not because my shoulder detached.

I am glad you had fun! Shooting is one of the funnest things to do.
These light bullets are fun to shoot small stuff, but I wouldnt reccommend them for biggame.

If you are experiencing severe recoil with the 180-200 grain bullets, maybe try adding a higher quality recoil pad, or just down load a little. You dont want to develop a flinch.

I think these guys are sufficient for the hogs we have down here in central florida, they hit harder than 223 or 30-30 which are the go to hog guns in these parts. Sure can hit a hog with it anyways, which is half the battle.

Sounds like fun!

Is this a pistol bullet? I cannot imagine a bullet intended for a 35 caliber rifle that only weighs 116 grains.

Must look about like a roundball.

Where did you get your loading data?

I would opine that a cast bullet at such a speed in a 336 would have just about zero accuracy potential.

If it is the right size, loaded properly, and with an appropriate charge it will shoot, but have limited use. Kinda like the old collar button in a 45-70~

I would use 220gr or heavier on hogs. But then I'm not an expert on shooting hogs.

That high speed 35 cal 116gr projectile sounds like a pretty decent varmint loading. I might try something similar in my 303 Brit two-groove but I can't use Lil'Gun to that effect because the cartridge proportions don't suite it. Or does it? I can get nearly 3000fps using an available 125gr bullet and regular rifle powder but I'd love to be able to use Lil'Gun and a lighter bullet. Or better yet, a hard cast boolit. My rifle's twist rate is a little too fast I should think. That would give me a 200m point blanc range with a rise and fall of 45mm above line of sight.

So, Id be interested in anyone's experience with half empty loads of Lil'Gun in rifle cases too. Is it even safe?

I'd think this loading would be fairly decent on hogs, but I can't be sure of the terminal ballistics of a 9mm SP at 3000 feet per second, my gut tells me it would be sure to fragment. Wish I had the facilities to do an in depth test. I do have a similar loading with 125gr gold dots (intended for .357 sig at 1400 fps) that pushes along at around 2500. That would hold together much better, I reckon.
