A buddy came by and droped off some junk from cleaning his workshop
Deep in one of the boxes were some moulds. They are all home made,
no markings cut in steel. They were all greased up and in good shape. He
beleaves they came from his Dad?He was a shooter for years and is in his
90s now.Going to see if he remembers anything about them
Couple interesting things
The one with the handles welded on to a pair of brake spring pliers
is a PP mould set up for a adjustable base pin for length,
[no pin though]at about .378 dia X1.030 length max.
Double cavity on the left rear is a .460 SWC with a .270 cut on other
end.Odd that the locating pins must be fliped to line up the 2nd cavity
RB mouls is a .250 dbl cavity and a single .375 on the flip side. This
one does line up on both sides.
A pair of .460 moulds that I need to try out soon in my trapdoor.
And the oddest of the bunch.Left front. A pair of .375 cavites cut in
brass inserts to the steel blocks,Very nicely done but I havent a clue
how they are attached.
Anyway it looks like they were made by the same guy and he had some
diffrent ideas that he was trying out.
Any one got anything to add as I am looking for ideas or thoughts on
them

That is just good ole American ingenuity!
You may want to hang onto these, you know, buy the guns to fit each mould.....

.................Ideas? Sure. You get a shooter and a lathe, mill or all 3 together and there ain't no tellin' WHAT'S going to get made :-)

Shooter575:

That's some BEEYOOTIFUL machine work! Harry Pope used to make moulds with interchangeable brass inserts; he made only a dozen or two, and they bring high three-figure prices on eBay or at collectors' get-togethers. Different layout from yours, though, and yours don't look removeable. By all means, get all the info and history on these while the old gentleman is still around, and share it with us.

BTW, that mould on eBay with the top & bottom sprueplate with the "WAX" stamp (by the lube hole for the hinge pivot) mentioned here a week or so ago went for $645 and change; not surprising, as it was almost certainly an original Harry Pope mould, and looked to be in fine condition. Outta my league, though.
