Where do you folks get your graphite for your shot? Also, what grade/grain/size (whatever) of graphite works best for buckshot and birdshot?

I tried the Tractor Supply store but their graphite was suspended in liquid, they didn't have any dry. The autoparts house has small tubes of it but the $$$'s??? Wow!

Anyhow, thanks in advance for your suggestions.

I'm sure the original poster will chime in on this, but IIRC it was bailer lube or something like that, I'm surprised that TSC or Agway wouldn't have it...... Also, it really doesn't matter what the size is, it'll get pulverized by the shot anyways.......

Sorry, it was seed lube for automatic planters...... here's the thread....

I use the sticks that are used in the adjustable pencils. It only takes a few sticks to coat a lot of shot.

If you can't find it HERE (http://www.graphitestore.com/), you don't need it.

Hello Chicken Thief, if you don't mind can I change my name to Graphite Thief, for I think I might be able to use some, first let me do all the paper work and the red tape involved in changing my name, then I'll let you know where to ship.
Thanks, at least I know where to get it from!

Try your John Deere dealer as long as they don't only do lawnmowers it's used for corn planters. I think a one pound can is about five bucks. It's just straight dry graphite, nothing else added.

Depending on where you live, you can get graphite from agricultural John Deere equipment dealers. It's used on the older style non-vacuum planters as a seed lubricant. Yep, you fill the hopper with planting seed and dump some graphite on it. The vibrations and all make it work down and coat the seed pretty evenly.

Vacuum planters use straight talcum powder.

If anyone needs flake graphite, I have several 4 qt packages. $30 shipped to your UPS address with $15 of that going to support CastBoolits in your name.

It will be after the 1st of July until I respond to any messages. I'm headed to South Dakota and will be off the net.

If anyone is interested PM on the board and I will reply upon my return.

Yup, go to your John Deere dealer, It comes in one pound bottles, is cheap and is the stuff used with the Max Emerge planter.
