Sorry guys. I hope this is the appropriate forum. Look what I found
$200
Remington model 1889
#2 grade
All numbers match
30" barrel
5 digit serial number (1890's production)
Damascus steel
Screws look like they were never touched, no burrs

I'm tickled pink, and I shot it. Probably should have waited til my smith looked at it, but the barrel looked clean very little if any pitting. I know, I know shells were black powder back then blah, blah, blah but why have a gun if you can't shoot it right. I will take it to my gunsmith tomorrow...................promise.

I have lots of shotguns, am a lifetime member of the ATA, and this may be my favorite gun at this point. Would love to see your pics of similar hammer guns.

Beautiful shotgun! I lost my fine old doubles in a divorce about 13 years ago and never attempted to track down replacements.

I shoot my old Colt doubles but with low pressure shells. 12 gauge low pressure data is supplied by IMR. Just don't like cleaning black. Nice gun you have there and now days damascus guns bring good money for nice examples.

That's about what I paid for an 1889 twenty-five years ago. Sounds like you got a great deal.

Sorry, IMR? What is that?

Powder supplier.

Loads for their powders for shotshells are found online.

Google them.

I use a few of their loads in an Elsie that should be fine for damascus too (IIRC, they're @5400 PSI.) (Follow the load data exactly)

IMR = Improved Military Rifle powder. Started life as a division of Dupont.

Now it's owned by Hodgdon.

Lots of great load info there.
