I'm looking to purchase cast Boolits for my Ruger 41mag, what is the pro's and con's of the bevel base /flat base, seems like every place I see 41 mag lead for sale it has a bevel base, any susgustions what to purchase and /or where. I want them for a low vel. target round. Thanks Ken

The bevel is easy to seat and doesn't require much case mouth flair. The flat base is what I prefer and use

Bevel base boolits are typically meant for the 10mm/40SW??? Be sure you are purchasing boolits which fit your gun in question. ... felix

Are we confusing dimensions in this thread? 10MM=.401. 41 Magnum=.410. I don't wanna be confused!!!!

41 Mag boolits for most guns SHOULD be 0.413 up front, and then sized down to mate with load used when required. ... felix

As long as they chamber I load them over size and I never have and accuracy problem or a leading problem with hard cast bullets 22 to 24 brinel. Also eliminates gas blow by

It used to be that you were locked into either a 210 or a 215 gr slug in the 41 maggie, now there is a much better selection of moulds & bullets available up to 250-265 grs. I like the flat base cast the best.
My 2 favorites are a 230 gr slug from an old Saeco mould & a 250 gr LBT, I've taken deer & elk with both.

Suggest a good 210-215 gr cast boolit under 8 grs of Unique for around 1000 fps. This will come close to duplicating the old Police load. Very easy to shoot and accurate.

The NEI 411-205-GC #219 is pretty much just a scaled up version of the Lyman's old no nonsense 358156. And very nice.
It uses the same top punch as for Lyman's 410610.

The NEI 411-195-GC #218 is a conical point. Got one cavity done and had the GC changed to plain base. They weigh 222 grains from yesterdays batch of mystery metal. Got a 38S&W case and weld epoxy made into a top punch for it. Should make a good alternative to the old Lee round nose for bunnies.

If you happen upon an old NEI mold you can get cavities recut for very reasonable rates. It greatly expands your choices of available designs.

I have nine .41 Cal bullets molds made by Lee, Lyman, & RCBS...IMHO the Lee (90330) 195 SWC....is the best choice. Using 8.0 grains of Unique--1,050 FPS--9.0 grains 1,150 FPS in a Model 57.

I have soem 215 bevel base and they shoot fine -- the bevel makes them load well too-- any normal .41 cast boolit should work -from 220gr and up or less if you prefer

When you're not sizing and lubing them yourself, there ain't much difference. The bevel base loads easier, but when sizing and lubing in a Lyman/RCBS type sizer, the bevel-base can allow lube to leak onto the bottom of the boolit where it can contaminate the powder. I use and prefer plain base boolits myself, but that is because I cast my own. If I did not, and the bases were free of lube, I'd probably buy BB boolits for the greater loading convenience sake.
