G/Day Fellla/s picked up my new Rossi Rio Grande 45.70 a couple of weeks ago, love it, great Rifles except the useless Sights Rossi Fits - but thats another thread.

I decided to dress the new Girl in my Life up some - I made the Sling first, nothing special here just a length of 1" Latigo Leather, a Harness Buckle and a Post Screw. By shear chance I picked up an offcut of Latigo Leather that was dyed the same Shade of Vege Tanned Leather I used for the Stock Cover. I like narrow Slings, they carry better especially when you are wearing a Pack. This Rifle is no chore to Carry, 6.5" would pull it up

A few weeks back I was gifted a DVD by John Bianchi on how to make a Cartridge Belt so I borrowed his method of attaching the Cartridge Loops, 5 x 45.70 Cartridges is plenty to on the Stock of the Rio Grande, does not upset it's great handling. I tooled a Headstudy of a Warthog into it to add interest

That's a very nice job you did dressing up your new rifle . The color is just perfect for the wood and the whole thing just looks ..."right" ya know what I mean?

Looks good JAcko.

Don't leave cartridges in it when you are not actually using it. The brass will become verdigris covered in no time!

waksupi, What causes that, and how can one protect against it?

It is the copper reaction to the tanning chemicals. I have never heard of a satisfactory way to stop it.

I know of one fellow who never had a problem with verdigris in all his time on the job. He just carried the one cartridge in his shirt pocket though.

Jacko, truly beautiful work sir!

.............That's why God invented nickle plated brass! ;)

Yes, nickle brass is the only way I know of to stop it. I have several tiedowns for handguns in 45 colt, 44 special, 41 mag and 357 / 38. They all do it regardless of what finish or tanning process used. I have not had trouble with nickle brass yet, but plain brass has to be cleaned before reloading the weapon.
