Hi guys, I recently got a Carl Gustav so far i have shot about 30 rounds through it just for fun, using 140gn cast bullets and trailboss!
Accuracy was ok, but I want something with a bit more muzzle energy! I have some AR2207 sitting in the cupboard, I have had a lot of luck with it in the 30-30. The Lyman cast bullet manual list 18-26 grains of IMR4198, I know this is similar to H4198/AR2207. Would it be safe to reduce load using AR2207 in this range? Am I right in thinking H4198 (AR2207) is a bit faster than IMR4198 and should therefore keep it a couple of grains lower?

Thanks

Also what powder would anyone here recommend?

Both H4198 and IMR4198 will work for the 6.5X55 Swede. I often use Alliant 2400 which is faster. However I (and a lot of posters on this forum) have found that really slow powders seem to give the best accuracy with cast boolits. Velocities over 1600 are difficult to attain with accuracy unless a very slow burning powder is used. Up to 1600fps, faster powder usually work fine. Most Swede bores are in the .266-.268" region, not the commercially available .264" size so slugging your bore and chamber throat might alos be advised.

Hi is, that from a M38 or M96, I have the M96, I think even if H4198 is a little faster (IMR 4198 is not available here) then working from 17 gn should present any problems!

16.0 - 18.0gr. in a Mod. 96, as per zombie woof, is a good choice, but so is 15.0 - 16.0gr. AA #9 (WC 820) with a 135 - 145gr. CB.
