I need load data for my 44 Special (Ruger New Blackhawk, Flat top) and using Alliant 300MP powder. Contacted Alliant, and no data avalible for the 44 Special and 300 MP.

Anyone using 300 MP yet?
Thanks!

TOO Slow for Special. Minimum Charge behind a 44 cal 240g Boolit is 25g and that's Way Over Special Pressures.

I went round with Ben at Alliant because it's so slow as to be useless as a Magnum Powder without a LONG Barrel.

When I think "Magnum Pistol" a 6" Barrel seems about average Length. I got 260 fps LESS velocity with a 6" 629 than listed. They had used an 8.25" sealed test barrel and anything less results in a rapid falloff in performance. Ben at Alliant suggested the problem might be Cast Boolits and asked me to try Jackets. Nozzler 240g HPs were 60 fps SLOWER than 240g 429421s or 320 fps slower than the Alliant's Listed Load. Alliant said this was a good batch and would not replace it so I am comfortable reporting what I found.

I think someone in marketing thought they could sell a Slower 296/H110 to pistol shooters.

That does not make it a bad powder just bad marketing.

I've been told 300-MP is awesome in 22 Hornet and Bee and not to say anything bad lest they discontinue it. It might be great in a 44 Rifle too but I shoot 4 & 6 inch 44 Mag Revolvers and find it too slow. (Excessive muzzle blast, incomplete burn, velocity swings.)
