Got it to the range late this afternoon. A little early
and just not enough time to really tell what it likes and
doesn't like ? ?

I absolutely love my 686-5. I've done some light polishing inside from the Jerry Miculek Trigger Job and a Wolff Spring kit. The trigger breaks clean and smooth.

You're just going to have to back your targets up a bit now! Mine shoots well out to 100.

I'm certain that I'll like mine .

Seems to be a fine revolver. Revolvers for me are self defense weapons, I won't be defending myself at 100 yds. with this revolver, so I most likely won't be practicing at that distance either.

Don't sell it short, Ben. My PPC match guns were all based on the L-Frame, we shot regularly to 50 yds. My stock 586 is capable of 1.5" @ 50 with target wadcutters. That load won't make it to 100 yds but I have no doubt a nice 357 mag load will make an impressive group.

Great groups. It don't get any better than a 686...for 38 Special the model 15 is superb.

You folks are making me feel old and left out. My Smiths all pre date the 686 with numbers like 57, 27-2, 29-2, 24, 19, 19-2 etc. Boy, do I like them, especially a 1929 vintage M&P from a Chicago policeman. That thing is a hoot to shoot.

Dan
PS. They all will hole a coffee can at 100 yards.

Nice revolver! What dash number is that one?

I like my 586 +1 pretty well, too.

Ben I have that gun's mate and mine really likes the RCBS 38-150 with a mid-range load of Bluedot. It also likes the Lee Group Buy 358-180RF with a charge of W296.

Didn't find that in Boaz did you? They never have anything like that when I visit the store, but of course it's been a couple years now since I've been there.

I have a 686 no dash, and love it. Shoots great mine as a set of Hogue grips which I like but I've had other grips on it. When I like to get a .357 zipping along with great exuberance I like Winchester 296 which I still have a good stash of.
With the Western super match 38 special I have it is a tack driver.

Rick,

Interesting you'd say that. You will often times see 5 X the guns in Larry's compared to some of these C grade and B grade gun shows.
