I have lots of pistols, and they all have there use, but for pure giggle factor I like them to sting a bit when the trigger is pulled. That rules out most auto's except maybe the Desert Eagle .50ae. Even though I haven't shot one to date, I don't see it coming close to the amusement I get from a warm .454 load. So where do I go next? I have access to a .500 S&W when ever I want it and I do load for it, but it's not really mine and I don't plan to spend the $1100 to own one myself. How about the .480 Ruger? I really like my 6" .454 Raging Bull, even after a couple thousand not so factory loads. I would like to hear some thoughts on the .480. What else can be shot through the .480? Also looking at a 2" .454 Raging Bull.

Get you a 10 inch ported 45-70 encore. That is the only pistol that ever gave me a concussion. Recoil not withstanding.

How about a SP101, heavy boolit, case full of 2400. That'll put you way past sting and tread on the threshold of OUCH! You can do it for probably $500 or less. Just sayin.

I have a 7 1/2 480 SRH and a 6" Raging Bull. The most I have shot thru them was a 400gr MiHEC. Can make it interesting but not worse than the 454. I have a .475 BFR coming so I doubt I push the little Bull very hard any more.
Ohhh and I have a 50AE Desert Eagle,That big SOB aint nothing to sneeze at and its also the MOST accurate semi auto I own and solidly top 3 pistol period, I have shot sub 3" 5 shot 100 yard groups with it.
And the 500 JRH might be something for you to look into,VERY VERY acurate in a BFR.

It's on my bucket list but the .35 Remington version will have to suffice for now. Seems I should be able to find a used Contender bbl for a song but still looking. Guess folks are afraid to admit it's too much for them.

Get one of those scandium J-frames. Those things hurt with "regular" .38s..

You'll be disappointed with the recoil from the 329(I was). It just wasn't quite the rip roarin fire breathing monster that everyone seemed to say.

OTOH, I have a 480 Vaquero that is quite the handful when loaded like a 5 shot. Also, a SRH 480 with some wood finger groove grips from Badger will give you all the recoil you want.

Hamilton Bowen built one that would get your attention; a titanium frame .50 AE. The gun weighs something ridiculous like 21 ounces, and Hamilton assured me that everyone who's fired it so far has bled. I declined the honor of firing it...

I'm sure that Hamilton would build you one for enough money. :veryconfu

As I've posted on other threads, I'm a huge 480 fan, but the reason I like the 480 is that it doesn't sting. Now you can go with a custom bullet mold, load the bullet long and get somewhere between 480 levels and 475 linebaugh levels.

If you already have a 454, and want to move up the ladder, then jump off the deepend and get a 50 caliber. Personally I'm not a fan of the 500 S&W as it's simply too much gun to pack your hip. Get a 500 linebaugh, or 500 JRH. I figure if you're going to go big, go biggest, which the 500linebaugh is. I've shot a ruger superblackhawk 4 5/8" that was converted to 500 linebaugh. Without a doubt, launching 440 gr bullets from that gun makes the 454's recoil pale in comparison. If you want something slightly more "practical" then get a bfr in 475 linebaugh. 475's also get your attention when launching 400+ gr bullets at max levels.

Groo here
Contact SSK and have JD make an Encore barrel in 50 AK...
Tell him you want to shoot 50BMG bullets..
Only gun that "broke" my grip on a gun..
But when shot with 50 AK loads it is sweet!!!!!!!!!!

Had a 50 AE Desert Eagle. It let me down on a chest shot on a boar (hog) which later dressed out at 286 lbs. Side shot into the gristle plate/ribs which deflected the shot up and out the top. Pig took an intense interest in me, the shooter, and when I jumped up on the bed of my friend's new Dodge disel dulley, pig tried to follow, having his front two legs and chest up on the tailgate and scrabbling to get up when my friend finished it from close range with a .454 Casull. I was headed for the cab 'cause I didn't want to shoot my friends brand new vehicle. Anyway, after that, I sold the Desert Eagle and bought a .454

For puttin down a pig right now, even at times with less than perfect shot placement, the .454 rules. I still got a stash of the old, discontinued Winchester 260 gn. PTHP ammo that outperforms the new stuff they produce. Never let me down.

Oh, BTW, purchased a .45-70 Magnum research revolver and am looking forward to putting it through it's paces when I get through several other projects I have going.

If you were a little closer, I would let you try my Contender in 444 Marlin.
