I am looking for .452 molds that will produce 230gr or so and 200gr RN bullets with a 2 ogive nose. I have a lee 230 tumble lube mold like this but want some conventional lube groove molds. Lee makes some RN conventional groove molds but they are 1 ogive and by the time I seat them deep enough to chamber they tend to be slightly unreliable in some of my 1911s while the 2 ogive bullets feed dependably.

LT, the choices for a 200gr RN 452gr 2 GG mold are pretty much non existent in today's market. If Ideal was in business still, they produced such molds. So your option is to buy a Lee 450-200 mold and 'beagle' it up to 452 ...

Or you could call John Lee for a custom mold increased to 452 base diameter

For 200gr I will probably get one of these;

Mihec HP Mold.

Anyone have experience with this particular mold?? They are generally well spoken of.

In the heaver bullet range I am considering a 4 cavity Lyman BUT I have a .358" 180gr which barely casts to size and the Lyman molds (newer ones) are motiorious for under casting so I am reluctant to try another one.
Why do the Lyman's cast so small?

The question should be - why does ANY mold cast so small?

I already fixed that problem. Go to Accuratemolds dot com, click on the catalog link, and check out number 45-230L. I designed that based on the Lee TL boolit and made it a plain base with two lube grooves. It works very, very well. Tom will make it for you in your choice of material, cavities, and driving band diameter with your choice of alloy, and his turnaround time is very fast, only a week or two.

Maybe take a look at the Lyman 452374?

I have one of the MP molds you reference... They are similar to the 452374, but the full diameter section in front of the lube groove stays straight, and doesn't curve into the ogive as quickly as the Lyman design. I set my seating depth so that straight wall is at the end of the case, and I have no feeding problems in match barrels. If you'd like to test some, shoot me a PM.... I have lots that are sized and lubed....

I have a 4 holer (MP 452-200) and it's my go to mould for my 1911 boolits. Of all the .452 moulds I have that particular one is my all time favorite.

Thanks, Jerry. I don't know how to resize those .gif files and they end up taking up more than a page width when I post them as an image.

That's my 230-grain go-to mould, the Mihec plainbase copy of the H&G # 68 (200 grain SWC) is my 200-grain go-to boolit. I shoot both weights, just depends on the use. I also use the Lyman 452374 Devastator HP mould for my SD loadings, cast from malleable alloy.

Another option for a 230gr round nose would be NOE's clone of the H&G #34 boolit. It's fairly close to the Lee TL230 boolit, but with a single conventional lube groove. I have one of these in a 5 cavity version, and it's my 'go to' mould for a 45 round nose.
