I have been reading about the .32 NAA round lately and am kind of curious to know if it lives up to its claims as a better SD round than .32, .380 or .380+P ACP rounds. NAA sells their Guardian pocket auto as well as i have heard of guys converting LCP's to the round and apparently the mags function fine as it is a necked down .380. What do you guys think? 60 gr JHP Cor-bon ammo at 1200 out of a 2.5" tube for 192ft/lbs, would that make for anything close to an acceptable SD round? Sure would make me feel better than a Mini revolver or a .25 or .32ACP in my pocket.

I wouldn't want to be shot with one. I am interested in the answer to this one as I have eyeballed that cartridge/gun combo as well.

I have liked the idea since they first hit the market. I would like to see someone load a 75 grain HCLFN to about 1140 fps and 216 fpe from a short (2.5" barrel) and as high as 1200 fps and 239 fpe from a 4" barreled handgun. The street performance should be rather impressive. Penetration should be thorough, and the odds for disrupting the CNS system would be greatly enhanced. The platform needn't be any larger than that of a .380 ACP (the parent cartridge).

Nice thought, eh?

I think the .25 NAA is pretty slick as well. I bet that would be fun.

They both look like a sweet combo, and as we can see in other guns, bottleneck pistol rounds can make the mouseguns roar. I wonder what reloading for one would take, and if dies are out there? I guess i never have really looked. Also it would seem to be a fairly simple switch for your favorite pocket auto (in .380 of course) with the option of dirt cheap practice and never to have to worry about not being able to find at least some sort of ammo for it.

I would like to see a single shot rifle chambered in .25 NAA. Now that would be really fun and CHEAP!!

When I first heard of this round, or the experimental version of it, I had entertained the idea of obtaining a .32 ACP barrel for my 1922 FN .380 and having the barrel chambered for this necked down cartridge.
Since my 1922 is in near mint condition, other than some speckling in the bore near the chamber, I decided not to mess with it.

Balistically the round would be similar to the 8mm Nambu. More penetration than a standard .380 load but no house burner.

There are light bullet slightly hotter loads for the .380 that worked fine in the civilianized Browning .380 with target sights and big grip when tested.

Also wouldn't there be feeding advantages to having a round that is bottlenecked? I had always heard that was the story behind the .357/45 for competion shooters using HP bullets.

Definite feeding advantage.

I still kick myself for passing on a 32NAA conversion for my Kel-Tec. But at the time I just felt the guy really overpriced it to me.

I don't think there would be any problems obtaining loading dies. There might be a learning curve for those not experienced with bottlenecked cartridges.

I think that the neatest conversion kit someone could create is a .32 NAA conversion barrel for one of the Bersa "Thunderer" pistols. Lightweight, powerful, ample penetration, and the same size as a Walther PPK. The aluminum frame makes for easy carry, and handloading the .32 NAA with some 75-grain LFNHC bullets would make it an excellent PD piece. The extra inch of barrel gives the cartridge more "runway" to generate even higher velocities.

I'd like that in my Ruger LCP too. Too much for that lightweight?

No, not really. Any load that would produce pressures that would function the .380 without destroying the pistol should work well in the LCP. I still wouldn't put anything in the LCP much beyond standard pressures.
