Anyone know a good book on Colt double action revolvers? Something that has history, variations and values? Anyone have one for sale?

Are you looking for a "coffee table" book or for more of a technical book? The early double actions or the more modern guns?

I've got Kuhnhausen's shop manuals on the modern day Colt double actions, and also have numerous reference books that contain general info on the different Colt models and variations (as well as containing info on just about every other make of firearm), but don't know that I've seen one volume devoted exclusively to Colt double actions.

I'm certain there are some out there, I'm just not aware of one.

Not looking for a Kuhnhausen manual, more of a collectors guide type book. WWI and newer interest me.

Haven & Belden's 'A History of the Colt Revolver' covers the history/development of all Colt handguns from 1836 through 1940. First published in 1940, it was reprinted in 1978 and there appear to be a few used copie available on Amazon.

Also, while not exclusively about Colts, Geoffrey Boothroyd's 'The Handgun' does a pretty good job up though the late '60s.

(No, before anyone asks, my copies of these are not for loan or sale.)

"Colt Firearms--1836 to 1954" by James Serven.

Does a pretty good job of describing history and variant/caliber departures of models made in the years covered in the title. It has been out of print for many years.

"The Book of Colt Firearms" by R.L.Wilson is a good general reference if you can find one.
Gary H. Peer has a very good general reference book about snubbies. Titled "Colt Double-Action Snub-Nose (Pocket) revolver an eighty year survey". Peer's book only covers guns up to 1957.

Colt, An American Legend goes up to 1985 with serial number listings. Its original list price was $65 but can be found for $20. It covers all colts.
