M1 Garand with 3 MW, 3 TE: its my dedicated cast bullet M1 rifle.
Alloy: 8#WW, 2# Linotype, 3% Tin added (over kill).
Lube: WL 2500
Sized: .309
Bullets drop .3095
Water quenched all bullets
Mold: 170 gr Lee one cavity model (yes, old but never used till now).
Bullets weighed and only those in the 169 gr range used in test (this was
80% of the yield. Rest were 168 gr in weight. Ten of the ten pound pot were
170 grain and all those were 170.0 to 170.3 grain. The mold drops decently consistent bullets for me
Powder: 42 gr IMR 4895 was best load for this bullet
Primer: Tula Large Rifle primer
Results: 100 yds, 1 inch consistent groups from a Lead Sled with the sized bullets. .9 inch from unsized bullets. No leading.
Perfect functioning of rifle and feeding of loads. My barrel slugs .3085 by the way and I will probably cease sizing bullets from now on
and continue to lube them in a .311 sizing die with 2500 White Label Lube

My objective: Find a 300 yd cast bullet load for the M1 Rifle. I think this load is moving about 2350 FPS and ought to have the legs to do well at 300 yds. I would like your opinion on that. I am not prone to load any higher in powder charge as 43 grains shot wide (no leading) and I see no accuracy above 42 grains of this powder.

Your thoughts about this round having legs to 300 yds would be appreciated. I will test it as soon as range openings allow for 300 yds shooting.

Note: my loads not recommended for anyone, no liability assumed. Just reporting my findings.

Thanks for input on this thread. Thanks to Gear and Larry Gibson for mentoring so far on all subjects.

42 grs IMR -4895 is my standard 308 jaxketed load.
300 yds will be no problem for you.
i ring the 8" 300 yd gong at 1950 fps in my 1917 0-6 about 85-90% of the time with open sights.
in fact my hit percentage is higher with that, than with my m-15 5.56 and jaxketed.
