Well I did it.Took a bit of patence to get everything together, but it payed off.I fluxed with cedar pet bedding. There was almost a 5gal bucket of sand, dirt, and tar in this smelt. The pitch being the worst.I learned alot to say the least. Now I have the WW's to deal with, atleast they have very little tar. Thanks for all the help.http://castboolits.gunloads.com/imagehosting/thum_195504f0b85856fa86.jpg (http://castboolits.gunloads.com/vbimghost.php?do=displayimg&imgid=3375)http://castboolits.gunloads.com/imagehosting/thum_195504fce83524e3a6.jpg (http://castboolits.gunloads.com/vbimghost.php?do=displayimg&imgid=5509)http://castboolits.gunloads.com/imagehosting/thum_195504fce83523f964.jpg (http://castboolits.gunloads.com/vbimghost.php?do=displayimg&imgid=5508)

Just make sure you don't accidentally throw the kid's hamster into the pot of molten metal along with it. . .:kidding:

Some beautiful looking ingots. Nice start. I can sympathize with the tar. I got some roofing lead not long ago with roofing tar all over it. Stinky melt, worse than SOWW, stay upwind. Only good thing, it's a hydrocarbon and makes a fluxing material. Lead is lead, still worth the effort.

Smelt like someone was installing a built up roof most of the day. lol I had mostly roofing lead with pitch and is very nasty..Cedar does make it smell alittle better. Thanks for the compliments.I'm glad to have it up off the ground and in my storage building.Think I seen something moving in the pile but it wasnt a hampter hehe.I'll post more pic when i do the WW's.Hopfuly they go as smoothly as this did. Thanks to you all.

just wait till you get those lead seals out of the iron or ceramic sewer pipes, you think smelting roofing tar lead is bad try some of that sewer lead
