Long range slug design.

What characteristics are important in designing a full bore slug for use in a rifled barrel, with a max range of 200 yards?
My idea is,

If you maintain the same proportions as shown in your print,
and it is 12ga bore the slug will be real heavy. Which, unless you
set up a full blown 12ga FH won't be out at a speed good for 200yds.
I know guys loving 1000 gr bullets but only get them to 1100 fps,
which has such poor trajectory, not the best for 200yds.
The 600ge Dixie was only lead fullbore slug I found being anything
like being streamlined and it still was only about as long as
it was wide.

THose proportions are about like 54-58cal slugs.Ed
