This may be a silly question; but I will ask it anyway. Has anyone tried a full wad cutter in the 35 Remington? If so, how did it shoot? What loads? Seems like something fun to try if it is a safe load. I am looking at a 148 grain boolit cast at 0.359-0.360". Thanks in advance for any information.

Tried it, couldn't hit the barn from the inside. Same with SWC pistol boolits. The Lyman 358665(?) cowboy boolit worked pretty well, though, crimped in the groove. I had previously enlarged the mould to cast .359", which was barely enough for my Marlin. My .35 Remington likes heavier boolits so far, even for plinkers.

I have to dissagree with regards to swc boolits. My 336 has seen almost nothing but 158gr and 170 gr SWCs since I've been loading for it. Many a can have fallen at 50 yards.

I do have the micro groove rifling, so that may be the source our disparate results. A 158gr swc over 12.5 gr unique is my go to plinking load.

Good question. If this would work they might make some good "mouse fart" loads to put in your pocket to pick up some pot meat while chasing deer.

MasS&W, could I ask what loads or powders you have used other than Unique. Have you tried Bullseye ?

My old .35 with around 8 grains of Red Dot shot SWC and RN .38 cast bullets well out to 50 yards. It has conventional rifling if that makes any difference. Never tried a full wadcutter and you'd have to single load them, b ut if you loaded them slow, I bet it would be a good plinker for short range.

The all time best accuracy load in my MG 336 is a Magma 200 SWC sized .358 pushed to 1400 fps with Alliant 2400. 50 yd five shot groups under .75 are not at all unusual.

Groups hold up well at 2000 fps with Re7........well under 2" at 100.

I haven't tried any WC's..........might work, give it a try and let us know.

I think I will try a few for kicks the next time I load.

I have tried bullseye, I got very similar results. I only handload light plinkers for 35 rem, I buy full power loads for hunting. I believe 11-13 grains of unique yielded decent gallery gun type performance. Like I said, I'm loading for fun and not profit, the return on investment for full house loads just isn't worth it for me at this point.

Mas, for whatever it's worth 11-13 grains Unique with a 158 grain bullet will yield a lot more than gallery gun performance. It will out power a long barreled .357 pistol when that load is shot from a 35 Remington rifle.

When I think of gallery loads, what is usually spoken of is 800-1000 fps. That much Unique would be well past that by quite a ways.

Very true. I think I was getting 1750 fps, but I haven't chronographed it recently. That's probably 223 performance, but I forget what a light load in a 35 is capable of sometimes haha
