I'm assuming that for the .30-30 a heavier bullet is better for metal silhouettes at this range, and my local mould maker (Rapine) happens to have a 180gr GC mould. However, I'm open to suggestions for both bullets and loads.

Rifle or handgun? If rifle does it have to feed from the magazine?

If the rules specify the rounds must feed from the magazine make sure that Rapine mould is compatable for feeding with the two rifles you have. If so a 180 gr bullet is sufficient for the task. If single feed is ok then I've had really good results with the 311299 and 311284 moulds in my M94. 4895 is my powder of choice for anyof the heavier bullets in 30-30.

They were cast of WWs, sized .311, with Hornady GCs and lubed with Javelina. They were seated over 25 gr H4895 in W-W cases with WLR primers. OAL was adjusted so the driving band was slightly engraved by the lands. No crimp was used. Velocity was 1670 fps out of my 20" M94. Accuracy was 2 - 2 1/2 MOA at 200 yards (I had young eyes then) with the factory iron sights. It took the rams down with authority. I did make a special adjustment step for the rear sight that gave me 50, 100, 150 and 200 yard zeros. I did quite well with that load until they changed the rule that said the 5 shots had to feed out of the magazine during the string. It was a local any bullet sort of match and they wanted to eliminate the use of 168 MKs in the lever guns. Unfortuneately it also eliminated a very fine cast bullet. I went back to 311291 and did ok but quit those matches as they turned into an equipment race game and I ceased having fun. Swtched over to shooting the M1 Carbine matches with cast bullets (chickens, pigs and turkeys at 100, 150 and 200 yards) which was lots of fun while it lasted.
