Anyone got info on material that their using in a Pat Marlin 35 cal Plain Base gas check maker? I will be using them on a lee 358-125-RF and 358-158-RF and sizing to .358.

I'm looking for the following:
- Material type
- Material hardness
- Material thickness
- Where to purchase material

Thanks in advance

The best material for PB checks is 0.008" lith plate.

Send a PM to JKH.

I have been using .006 brass shim stock it works on my
35pb and 45pb just fine. It is half hard.

My findings with the ones a member sent me to try were that the .004 alum. soda can material were actually more accurate than either the litho plate or thicker .010 copper . I was shooting these full power from a 35 rem. with 200 gr PB bullet.

I've been using pop can material. Seem like Pepsi is the thickest. Coors Lite can's ain't bad either. I've been using a lot of 9mm bullets sized .3575". They work great./beagle

This was confirmed in one of Pat's threads. (It's sticked IIRC) I use Bud Light cans (It's what I drink when I need a cold on after a hot afternoon) that measure .004.

I don't remember if that was me or not, but Beagle gave me a few beer-can checked, 200-grain Lyman PB boolits to try in my .35 Remington and it shot sub-caliber groups at 50 yards with them using midrange loads of Reloader 7. Proof enough for me.

I had someone ask me for some coil .550" x .006" for a pb, when I got it he said he didn't want it anymore, didn't tell me untill I got it for him!
I have the coil, but it has never been tried outlet me know if your interested.

I could be completely off but my thinking is that the thinner material destorts/ displaces less of the bullet . Whatever it is with just about every different load I tried the thinner material always had better accuracy

Can somebody answer the following for me?
How many bullet calibers are there for pb Gc?
Also what width does the strip have to be to fit through pats tools?
I am trying to sort aluminium coil in .006" to supply folks
Thanks in advance

How well would .012 thick litho plate work for 35cal PB checks?

It would work. But as I have posted above something that thick simply isnt necessary, the thin soda can material worked just fine even at 40K+ psi loads in my rifle.

I'll get em started - my 45PB looks like 0.65" wide to fit the die

I use .005" copper sheet for PB checks. Here is the link where I purchased mine:

.008 flashing was a bit to thick for my tastes. The .004 Coors cans were a bit too thin. I bet the .006 is the bees knees.
