View Full Version : 336 in .35 Remington won't chamber most Boolits

Anyone else have issues with extremely tight chambers on .35 remington Marlins? Anything with a hefty ogive or a prominent forward driving band (any truncated cone or SWC boolit to be honest) takes a large amount of force to chamber. armed_partisan even managed to pull a boolit out of the cartridge once, spilling powder all over himself. Any ideas on a fix?

Get a mold designed for the .35 Rem or get the throat recut.

Check out the Ranch Dog site link above. Good drawings and explanations. "100 Year Hunter" is as Michael says, worth a read. In theory revolver boolits should work in your 35 Rem but in practice it apparently takes a bit of chamber work.

The problem is boolits designed for the 357Mag...correct? [smilie=f: The problem is a short throat not a tight throat...correct??[smilie=b:

The solution is likely as simple as the purchase of an RCBS 35-200 or another boolit designed for the 35REM. :holysheep

190 grain mold for the 336... I think it would be a cheaper option than getting chamber work done on it. Thanks!

Actually, even 158 grain SWCs for my .38 fail to chamber without a bit of muscling. I don't even wanna know what a 175 or so Keith SWC would do hahaha

Really.... Mine is a mid 1980s production. I guess I just have a really tight chamber. My friend has a gun from the same era, and the previous owner had to get it reamed to make it run pistol boolits.

No, yours is the common condition. Maniac has the unusual rifles.

I have a 1958 336RC in .35 Rem that has no issues with the Penn 158gr TCBB that I have been using...

Take a look at this and see the source of your frustration.

A throat at .357" dia. tapering down into bore diameter at 2 deg. 15 min. isn't very easy to get a .358 or .359 pistol style boolit into.

I attacked my own 35 Rem Marlin with a 35 cal. rifle throater that is .360" and 1deg. 30 min. Makes it much easier to find boolits that fit and it shoots better than it did before. Of course this is why the RCBS 200FN and the Ranch Dog 190 exist - specifically to fit the SAAMI throat. And they do work quite well.

Just ordered myself a ranch dog 190 grain mold. MY FIRST BOOLIT MOLD!

I have run into that problem as well with a Marlin 336 in 35 Remington. The solution is simple. Instead of rethroating the barrel, simply make the round shorter by either seating the bullet back enough to clear the rifling or trimmng your brass enough to keep the bullet from engraving the rifling. I shortened the brass and the problem went away.

I was trying to load a Mt. Baldy 240gr WLNGC and having fits getting the rounds to chamber. Purchased a Lee Factory Crimp Die and seated the boolit deeper and life has been good ever since.

I've had the same problem, too. What length do you trim cases to?

the Ranchdog mold for the 35 is truly awsome!
