Lead Score!

A local gentleman came across old communications shielding via his work. He split it amongst 3 interested people - I just got back from picking up about 250 pounds of it, with more to follow.

I'm smelting some now - musta lost my mind, cause its about 105 degrees out.

Where the straight pieces go into the cylinder looking things is usually soldered. 50-50 or 60-40
save those sections for alloying tin is expensive. Frank

Yep - I was thinking it was solder, and one piece has LOTS of it. Good advice - thanks!

A neighbor who owns so rental property had a tenant move out leaving five 5 gal buckets of wheel weights. He knows I cast so he gave them to me. Wow !

I was happy when a friend dropped off a couple of 25 pound ingots this week. He said he didn't want them so I smelted them down and they're nice pure lead. Shiny!!! Must have been from a shop with lots of battery cable ends.

Put one outside next to a pure lead one for a couple of months to see if it stays shiny.
If it does, it has a higher tin content.

They were real dull grey when he brought them to me so i don't think there is any tin or at least, very little. Now I do wish they were 50/50 at least.
