I been playing with my Model 11 and the Lee 1 oz. slug.

"I do not recommend nor advise anyone to use this data."

The load consists of:

2-3/4" Win. AA HS hull, star crimped
12 WAA wad
Lee 1 oz. slug, with the base filled with 3M 5200 sealant
20 ga 1/16" nitro card
16 ga 1/8" hard fiber card
24 grains of 800X
Rio primer

I holding a 2-1/2" group at 25yds out of 18.5" cylinder bore. At 50 yds, the groups are 8".

Any suggestions on how to tighten up the groups? I would like to see the 50 yd group a bit smaller.

Regards,
Everett

Hello Everett, first of all put the Lee slug in every type of wad that you have and try pushing it through your barrel with a wooden dowel or cleaning rod just to see which slug/wad combo is a nice snug fit and needs about 8 to 10 lbs pressure to push it through, now thats the wad that will give you better accuracy from your barrel!

You do not need to fill the base, just use a .125 nitro card of 16 gauge in wad below the slug in Waa 112. Use wad pressure 30 lbs and 6 point fold crimp!
Tighten your barrel lug all the way then back off one knotch to relieve excess pressure!
Try a few this way while having fun!
Hope it helps.

Vdo-

I wondered if I might not be intoducing a un-needed variable by filling the base. I filled a bunch of them up when i first got the mold prior to receiving my hard cards in an effort to eliminate the wads getting caught in the base. I ended up punching out a bunch of fiber gasket material to lengthen the slug column as the slug was deep in the wad. My results weren't stellar with the homemade spacers. The 25 yd groups were 6", so when I went to the BPI hard cards and got 2-1/2" groups I was pleased with the improvement. I hope to get into the 6" or less at 50yds.

I read a post, that I think you wrote, that said you didn't recommend the clone wads as they would not hold up. Was it petal failure or base failure that you experienced? I haven't noticed anyone else using 800X with slugs. Have you played with this powder in your experiments?

I am having a blast playing with these slugs.

Everett

Hello Everett, It was me as the clones are no way near as the original better quality wads.

The problem is the Lee is just as long as it is fat, a perfect bumble bee, then you filled the base and pretty much turned it into a rock.

Here is perfect fit, the Fed.12S0 wad that gives a good fit with Lee slug and a .125 nitro card in wad, be sure to use 30 to 40 lbs wad pressure right before the fold crimp!
Hope it helps.

Have you noticed any pressure problems substituting 12S0 with the WAA12? I can't really see any problems but I read all the times that there major differences in component effects on a given load. I just have never seen much difference from one wad to the next.

Good morning Everett,

the Win. Waa 12 seems to fit very well with a .125 nitro card, check your crimp index with your load and do check for barrel fiction fit by pushing it through with a wooden dowell!!
Hope it helps.
