So I got a new to me toy, a H&R USH 20ga rifled slug gun. I have a Lee 12ga slug mold, and it works well in my 12ga guns, but this is new to me. What mold would y'all recommend? Also, I have read somewhere about using .58 Minnie slugs for the 20ga. Is that something y'all would recommend, and if so, any favorites there? Basically, the 20ga is a completely new animal to me, so any and all advice y'all can give will be very appreciated. Thank you all.

44846 These were shot @ 50yrds from a 870 20ga rifle barrel, they are 440gr 58cal LEE R.E.A.L bullet in a BPI commander wad on top of WSF powder, in a cheddie hull, no adjustments were made just wanted to see how they would shoot. Good luck HC

good luck!

I suggest you search this forum with 20ga slug as the topic, LOTS of good info, maybe more than you want.

It will answer some questions you haven't even asked, but are gonna. :)

the most interesting thing I have read on the USH's is they CAN be VERY accurate, rivalling or besting many boolit rifles.

it is not uncommon for some groups to be "Touching" at 100yds... Now, with a 73cal, that is still a 3/4 inch group, or just under, but I'd say that is pretty darn good and certainly takes them out of the "Intention" of a shotgun only hunting zone.

I have also heard of the 20ga being refered to as the "Poor Man's 600NE"

Either way, they are a POWERHOUSE

I'd have one of each, if I could afford it

Nanuk, and it is these reports that made me buy it when I saw the price tag I saw. Dont get me wrong, it wasn't a steal, but it was cheap and in good condition, so I couldn't pass it up.

Thank you, VM, that is a lot of info and will keep me testing for a while to see how it works in my gun. I will be ordering a .58 mold in a few days once I figure out which would seem to be best for this to start with, and hopefully have some good news to report to everyone fairly soon.

Thanks everyone for all the help, and I'll be back with reports and probably more questions soon.

Hatcreek-- was that rifled barrel. That is great group.
I keep saying 58cal in a 12ga sabot or my 585He is where it is at.
And now I can add in a shotcup, A shot cup by the way that isn't
anywhere near as strong as sabot, but giving great results.Ed
