Post your best handgun group.

I feel like there are a lot of fellows out there that are having great results on this forum.

Tell us:

Range

Group size
Position (Bench, offhand, etc)
Sights/red-dot/scope
And anything else you want to share.

Here's my best group so far on the left:

I am not adding but I done tole all of ya, fellas here can shoot! It gives me a warm feeling.
Subsonic, so are you shooting just fine. Go to other sites and you would be kicked off for telling tall tales! :drinks:
Your right target is one of 2 things, uneven case tension or sandbag changes.
I have a few guns that I could not shoot from bags, the BFR 45-70 is one. I had to shoot it Creedmore. But eventually I did get it to shoot from bags. I was doing things wrong and even posted once that I could not shoot it from bags. Now my best groups are from sandbags. I pull my hair to put it in words for everyone because I can't.
It is more "feel" and how the gun recoils and I can not put words to it. I swear if you close your eyes when you shoot, you will learn to call shots just by how recoil feels.
I said once that if you put a thread across the level of barrel rise and never break it, you are good. But if you break the thread, the barrel came up too high. Same as the barrel kissing the brim of my cap---it is an "oops." I am not immune either.
The .475 has a LOT of torque and my gun has twisted under the Ultra Dot. I have found the scope crooked a few times. I have found the Warne ring screws getting loose.
I am having better luck on the .500 JRH using 3 Ultra Dot factory rings.
The .475 was ALWAYS loosening base screws too and Loc-Tite and hitting the screwdriver handle with a small hammer never worked so I glass bedded the base to the gun and epoxied the screws in.
I have the only BFR .475 with a one piece frame and base! [smilie=1:

There were many things going on on the right hand target... completely different load, boolit, hardness, etc. Plus I am sure I was doing something wrong with the sandbags or my grip as well.

I've never been one to hold onto targets, though I might still have one or two when I was load testing my 480 srh. Benched with a scope I was regularly shooting 5 shot 1" groups at 50 yds. My best group was at 100 yds with a 310 gr lfn and the 3 shots had 1/2" vertical dispersion and 1 1/2" horizontal spread. I was afraid to mess up the group so didn't fire the next two rounds ;)

I've had several with different calibers that warmed the cockles of my heart. Top one 12 shots from the 44 Magnum with a 260 gr boolit and the second from the 45ACP and 200 gr SWC's. Both were from sitting position and range pistol rest at about 10-12 yards.

Does the .25" group i shot last night at 10 meters with a competion air pistol and iron sights at our state fair shoot count??
I am many years and miles behind those who have posted their targets here, i would love to be able to shoot offhand groups like you guys with my SBH! But slowly and surely 4-H shooting sports are helping me to improve my skills, those air pistols will eat your lunch, no recoil and no muzzle flip will mean there is no way to hide a mistake!
One target that i have kept that i am proud of is from hitting a 8x11 target 3 out of 5 at 100 yards with my 4 5/8 SBH to win a turkey at the first turkey shoot i had ever shot at.

Great shooting guys!

My intentions for this thread are for it to be an inspirational thread for others struggling with accuracy in handguns.

I assume we aren't discussing jacketed bullets, as I've shot a 3 shot 1/2" group at 100 yds with a contender 6.5gr. Also had a 218 mashburn bee barrel that I couldn't miss the head on the turkey silouette at 150yds, bang-plink, bang-pling, bang-plink.

If you want to perfect your offhand shooting, a good air pistol and or 22rf is the key. You have to put in your trigger time, and you can't beat those tools. Plinking with a 22 at several hundred yards is a great exercise to teach you hold over and trigger control. The key is shooting in an area where you can see your misses just as clearly as your hits. It's hard to correct your aim when you know you missed, but not where.

Can't find the pic, a Poloroid taken over 30 years ago. It was five shots on a 22 Sillywet pig shot from 100 yds, in front of witnesses. I put a tape in front of the target for the pic. Freshly painted target so it nicely showed the five hits from my Single-Six, the one I took the Vt 22 Revolver championship the next week with, printed into 1 1/4".

I have shot plenty of awesome groups in the past that I never even thought about taking a picture of. I only started a few years ago due to people telling me how full of it I was. I don't doubt I am full of it, but I don't lie about my shooting.

That said, here are a few of how I do on a somewhat regular basis,

300yds, 14" Contender .223 AI, factory Win 45grJHP, fore end rested on Shooters Ridge Rock Steady rest. It does have a nice Burris variable on top of it which makes it almost boring to shoot at 100yds.

I don't shoot often from a bench, but below is the best I have done...it was 3 shots at 50 yds, sand bags, Ruger SBH (hunter maybe?), with some kind of scope (2X?). It wasn't my gun, just an acquaintance that wanted to see if his load would shoot. I shot the first 2 or 3 at 25 then tried the rest at 50. The load was 240 gr XTP over 24 gr of H110.
http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee85/dvnv/50yd3shot44mag-1.jpg

Below is a good for me off hand group at 25 yrds, open sights, 5.5" barrel. Ruger SBH in .44 mag, 225 gr speer 1/2 jacket over a healthy dose of H110. I have moved on from this combo because I couldn't get it to shoot at distance.
http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee85/dvnv/H44.jpg

This last one was off hand at 25 yards with a FA 454, irons sights, 7.5" barrel. The load was a 260 gr. Nosler Partition HG over H110 (don't have my notes, 33.5 gr?). It doesn't look all that great, but I was sighting it in and moved the sights twice during the string...

The last group of the day, with the last 4 rounds. Shot with a Ruger Blackhawk at 25 yards, rested on a sandbag, and a scope. It measures .380 inches center to center and is my best handgun group to date. The 357 lever action has done better, but that's not for this thread:

First pic is a 4 5/8" SBH shooting 429421's at 25 yards standing 22.0 H110 5 shots, second same gun with Lee 310's over 20.0 of H110 at 25 yards standing took three shots to get on target they shot high, 3rd is 429421's over 6.5 red dot at 25 yards standing, third is a 1 shot group at 50 yards from a tree stand. I was aiming for the center of his head. Load was 429421 hp's over 22.0 of H110. As you can see I tend to pull one shot out of group.

Only thing here are fox and I want to bust one with the JRH but they are so fast and see everything. Even traps don't work good. I trapped many in Ohio but never caught one here. They dig them up.
I made a box with a rotating strip of rabbit fur and a rabbit body on a stick, actually from a stuffed toy made from real rabbit.
Fox run like lightning out of the weeds and try to grab the rabbit, miss and turn inside out to go back for it. I have to be Bob Munden to hit one! :bigsmyl2::bigsmyl2:

More groups from semi-autos? Most people I've talked to are very down on accuracy from the modern semis, but from what I have seen, most will group pretty dang good with ammo they like and a guy that knows how to squeeze the trigger.

Those are a toss up. Some are made with no more then 7 yards considered. But they can be more accurate then a revolver if built right. The accuracy range of semi's is HUGE. I watched a Marine clang steel rams at 200 meters every shot with a 1911 while other 1911's could not hit a pop can at close range.
Many nines suck but I shot several WWII German pistols that would make you shake your head.
The problem is most carry guns are not made for accuracy yet the semi can be a tack driver.
The big thing with them is COST to find a good one. A great semi can cost double what a custom revolver costs. The best semi's will always be a .22 for poor folk. No slide movement or barrel bushings. The Ruger one of the best.
