I have a 45 cal Wesson replica- old Dixie Italian, with a 1:36 twist. Figure too fast for RB so I need conicals. Grooves are rather shallow but look like grooved pavement with lots of lines.

Looking at 250gr Lee R.E.A.L bullets because of cheaper mold. Also have a Lyman 445599 hollow base 'minie' mold 250gr I think, I'll be trying; but the twist might be too fast for a hollow base.

Advise on good bullet and other tips would be appreciated. I've always been a patched RB shooter.

Thanks...

Try it with tight patch and big ball.My Lyman 1-32" shoots RB as well as most.it even shoots well with up too 100g of powder.Group shown it 5 at 100 with open sights last weekend.Best ever by far but I'll take it.

Sure would be interesting to see if it would settle down with 45Colt bullets cast from soft lead with a card wad under neath.

Do you happen to have a measured bore diameter yet?

I have the Wesson replica that I bought from Dixie around 10 years ago. I think the twist rate is more like 1 in 24". I have used the Lee REAL bullets, both the 200 and 250 grain varients with moderate success. Both seem to need a card wad under them to give consistant accuracy. When I bougth mine, Dixie recommended the Lyman PH 475 grain bullet. I bought that mould and have fired quite a few of them in the Wesson, always in small batches since the butt plate doesn't not help much with the recoil. As cast, the PH bullet has smaller base-rings and is not difficult to get started in the rifling. Forget the "fake" false-muzzle that comes with. 70 grains of Goex FFg and a 1/8 card wad is a good load.
