I have a Remington 700 in .308 Win I'm going to be casting for. I have two moulds I'm going to be casting with - one is an old Lyman that I can't read the number on, drops some 177gr flat points. The other is a NOE K31 which is dropping right at 190gr. A forum member was also nice enough to send me a nice sample pack with at least a half dozen different boolits for me to try out!

My question: Can I use any of these powders I have in stock:

CFE223
8208 XBR
H322
TAC

I'd like to try these powders before I run out and buy more, I'm kinda tapped honestly. Looking at the burn rates, these are somewhat around the popular ones people mention here.

So can I use these?

The 8208 and the Tac are similar burning speed to 4895 so should be usable. I have never heard of anyone reducing the powder charges with these so a call to the manufacturer might be in order to make sure it doesn't do anything unwanted when reduced.
Haven't used CFE223 yet but will soon.
H322 has been used with cast before but not by me. Others will hopefully give their experience.

I really like the 8208 in .308 with Jacketed bullets...I bought 2# when it first came out and never used it till just last weekend, and it was great right off. I think I might buy 8# if this also works with cast!

I have 5# of H322 that I wasn't going to use since the CFE223 and 8208 are working so well for .223 - But I've had two people flake on buying the H322 from me...so if it works for cast as well, then I might just be set!

I'll give the manufacturers a call though and see if they have any suggestions for me. Thanks!

the h-322 will work better with a filler.

I stumbled into the thread about 10gr of Unique, and I do have an unopened bottle of that in the back of the powder closet. I didn't think that would be an applicable .308 powder, but I might try some in the 10gr to 15gr with lighter cast boolits.

8208 XBR is good but a little pricy for plinking powder. The unique should be OK with your heavier CBs, I use it with 180 gr.

Hey Lonely, can you expand on the cfe223 for me. I bought some last week and haven't had very much success yet.

I'm shooting a 55 gr fmjbt and it isn't as accurate as I would have expected.

Just shoot a ladder test and find out what works for your rifle. That's all I did.

Now that the weathers getting cooler, I might run another one and see if temperature varies where the nodes are.
