Lyman 225415 Cast Boolits Cost?

While talking to a gentlman at the range, he generously offered to cast me up some bullets for my 22 Hornet. The mold he has is the Lyman 225415. What would you guess would be a fair value for approximately 500 un-sized and un lubed bullets? Thanks

That is a gas check boolit, it is a 55 gr boolit a 45 gr. boolit would probably work better in the 22 Hornet. . 500 22 boolits is not a lot of lead weight wise. It is time consuming to cast them. I have that same mold in a double cavity. It would take me all day to get at least 500 good ones. I personally think $40.00 would be a good price, and I would not make them my self and sell them for that price. If he has a boolit casting machine he can probably make them and sell them for less than that. I know that you can't get them from most catalogs such as Midway or Midsouth. I would ask here who else makes them and sells them and check on the internet.

I looked on the net and found (www.moyerscastbullets.com) and they sell a 55 gr. cast bullet cast from an RCBS mold for $69.50 for 500 sized lubed and gas checked. They also sell a 45 gr cast bullet.

Thanks for the info. He stated that the one's the he cast weighed about 49 grains w/o lube or gas check. I was going to lube and size myself because I don't know which will shoot better in my Win 54, .224 or .225 since it has the .223 bore. Thanks again.

You have original version of the 225415 like mine. The bullet shoots fine in the Hornet but so does the heavier, newer version.

TCFAN: You are right, I also have an older single cavity Lyman 224415 that drops a boolit at about 46 or 47 grs. depending on the alloy.

Yes the weight does depend on the alloy used,I use straight Linotype for the 22 cal cast,that is the reason I said my cast at 45grs. WW cast out at 47 to 49grs .............................Terry

Either one of my 224415's shoots great in my TC 223 with 1 in 14 twist.

m 59 for $40 i can cast you 500 225450 pointy's they can seat w the same seating pin that a 55gr 224 fmj would use and unsized unlubed WW weight 48gr.
i'm casting them for my NEF 22hornet

you mean since it's supposed to have a 223 bore.
never take bore size for granted.

As far as bore size, been there done that. I owned this rifle years ago. M54 win punched out to 22 k-hornet. w/an old weaver k10 scope sitting in Kesselring rings. Traded it off when I couldn't get it to shoot to suit me. Not knowing there were diff. bore sizes. The guy that got it ( my uncle) went to buy bullets for it to reload more ammo and the old gunsmithy asks him if it's .223 or .224? Slugs the barrel and she's a .223. Buys the .223 bullets for it and she was back to being a shooter. It took me 20 years to get it back. So now I can play around with it and see if I can find some cast bullets to shoot well in it. Sounds like I will have to try sizing them both .224 and .225 and see how it all shake out. Thanks again for all the info.

Be sure to get all of the stuff out of the barrel from those funny coated bullets.
