View Full Version : Bought another 30-06 !
This one makes # 9. That's not too many......... now is it ?
I bought this one 3 days ago at one of my favorite gun shops in Birmingham.
It is a sporterized Remington 1903 - A3 in 30-06 with a 2 groove barrel that is
in absolutely pristine condition. It is a REAL SHOOTER as you can see. The rifle has a Dayton Traister trigger on it and is set to 1.5 lbs.
I put my Weaver Micro Trac , T-6 target scope on it for " trials " today. Gee, this one not only looks good , it is FUN to shoot.
Thanks,
Ben

Looking good sir....the rifle and the group!
If 9 is too many then I am in trouble; I have 7 now and at least 2 or 3 more that are on my "list."
Is the barrel bobed on that one? I can't really tell from the pic.

The barrel is 23" long.
The stock has some nice figure in it :

"The stock has some nice figure in it :"
Yes it certainly does.
I have a similar stock that my grandfather was carving up for the 03A3 that I inherited from him. He never finnished it, which is a good thing for the 03A3. I like it just the way it is but I think one day I would like to find a real buba job that needs some TLC and finnish that stock that he started.
I don't think the one I have is near as curvy as yours but even without a finnish on it I can tell it will have that amazing tiger stripe look to it. That is some beautiful wood.
In person , the wood has a lot of " cinnamon colors ".......Claro usually has more reds, blacks and dark browns ? ? ? Yes, the butt stock has a lot of fiddleback.
I've had several people who build custom rifles look at this one, most agree it was most likely built in the late 50's or early 60's.

Ben, you and I as well as many others here know a 30-06 in any form is never a mistake. I have a winchester model 70 match rifle in factory shape that will never see a jacketed bullet. Now all I have to do is get off my butt and see what she likes. Beautiful rifle. Been meaning to shoot cast in a sportered 03A3 I have had for close to 20 years. Frank

Ben,
Very nice rifle and some great shooting. Looks like the 16.0 gr. of 2400 is just what this rifle likes.

Nothing better
I woulda bought it to get that safety to put on one of my existing guns.
I have pared my collection to less than 8 aught sixes.

I agree, looks like it was made from a Fajen "aristocrat" style, partly inletted blank. I made up a few of them in the 60's. A lot of guys liked that style on trap guns for some reason.
Nice piece of wood, I'd guess black walnut instead of claro, though.
