Today I shot my investarms 58 caliber smokepole with PRB I cast myself, quite an eye opener! I started with 70 grains of the fake stuff(triple 70 2f) and it wasent shooting well at all. I jumped up to 90 grains and it tightened right up!

I am shooting about a 2 inch group with it so far at 50 yards. I might try 100 grains but its shooting well enough right now I could hunt with it. The whole cast thing is addicting!!!

What size and make of mould are you using.
I just picked up an Officer's Fusil and measuring the muzzle, it is 561"
I have around 20 round ball moulds, but the closest I have to size is 520" That will take lots of patches.

Yes, the .620 is a Jeff Tanner mould.
I also have .400, .410, .525 and .640 moulds made by him.

Horse, My 58 shoots .570 or .565 swaged RBs, commercial production, real good. However it shoots best with a .562 marked mold cast coww with 2% tin added. It's a real slammer. Don't ever have to track anything ya hit. If ya have a chance get some real "Holy Black" as it gives the best accuracy in all my hammer guns. 10

If I can find somebody here locally I am going to try and snag a pound of it for sure. I was kinda hesitant using a 575 round ball with a .018 patch. Sure is a tight fit. It shot ok though for what I am doing

Glad to hear it is working for you. That 90 gr 2f equiv. load is about the same as my 75gr 3f and it works just fine on deer out to 125 (the farthest I can get decent sight picture in a hurry) and out to 50 for cow elk.

My go to hunting load in my 58 is that cast hard roundball, guessing about 270 gr. in a pillow ticking patch on top of 110 gr. of 1.5F Swiss. Hang on cause it's a ripper but very accurate. Backwhen I shot subs it was 85 gr of FFF of 777 or Pyro Pistol. When at the range and shooting those full power hunting loads I only shoot 1 shot every 30 minutes. Sorta like the first shot is the best and only shot you get. Of course I have several MLs and probably some rimfires to shoot at the same time. My 58 is my favorite RB gun to hunt with. Lighter than my 50s and an excess of power. Best, 10
