I would think finding boolits will be the issue. With the extremely slow twist in those barrels you will have to find a design that is short enough to stabilize. I am pretty sure Accurate molds makes one for it, others may but I have never seen any cataloged.

Howdy Nobade
I understand that need. Already have a Lyman mold slated to get milled down to about a 270 grainer. I wil have to look at the Accurate line.. Always open to another usable mold.

Have a Uberti ,also did have a Chaparral both 50-95

My loads w/ black (I don't use smokless in '76's)

W/ lyman .515-350 gn FN-80 grs (2f or 1f ) card wad (powder compressed)

w/ RCBS 50-450 FN 70gns (2f or 1f) card wad (powder compressed)

All bullets sized .515, bore in my Uberti is .5125- >513; as I recall the Chappie

was also large (.512+). twist in both is faster than origionals (1-48)as compared

to 1-56 to 60.

both loads shoot well (21/2- 3 in, 5 shots a@ 100, I use the 350 gn more as it is

closest to origionals; the 450 gn is a thumper (duplicates 50-70)

Hope this helps you, contact me if you have any questions.

Good shooting!

Mike,

If you have't already done so, go to CasCity Forums .com, the Winchester 1876

Forum, there's a wealth of information on loading for all '76 calibers both black

and smokless.

Thanks again Waddie Bill.
Just put in an hour reading up on the 50-95. Looks to my like it will make one hum-dinger of a brush rifle capable of handling any critter I will ever come across in the east ILLinois area of North Fork River.

Itll also kill African lions! A lot of 76's in .50 caliber went over there and was used for the big cats- got the nickname 'cat gun' Ill bet it was because of the LONG magazine tubes!

Almost forgot!! For smokeless in my 50-95 Chappie Im using AA5744 behind a 350 grn. cast Lyman for 1500 fps, standard primers, CCI. Formed the brass out of .348 Win. brass, give it full charge of powder to fireform- takes care of the 'Coke bottle' look! Bear in mind my full charge of powder is 38 grains- thats what gave me the velocity and accuracy I was looking for. DONT start off with my charge in yer gun, pard - work up to it! And use a chronograph- its about the only way to tell when your approaching the limit. I talked to the rep at Hodgdon and it is within the range he recommended. The factory loadings way back then were at those velocities
