I'm shopping around for a Gas Check maker, and I'm looking at the Free Chex III.

I have access to material that's .007 or .016 in either aluminum or copper at a reasonable price.

Is there an advantage of going one over the other?

I hope Cu vs Al isn't a hot button (Ford vs Chevy) topic here...I'm pretty new and still learning my way around.

I have successfully used .011 and .016 Al and .014Cu in my CheckmakerIII. The copper makes a bit nicer looking check than the aluminum but all three work well on the .30 bullets that I shoot. I can tell no difference accuracy wise.

I'm going to be shooting .3XX projectiles as well. I'm thinking about pulling the trigger on the Free Chex III tonight.

I am not sure what type copper. It is a soft sheet purchased from pat marlin. It is something he managed to procure as a group buy and did deliver. If I were looking for more copper, I would look to these people:

As it is, I have close to 10 thousand checks on hand and plenty of copper and aluminum stock so won't be buying any for a while.

There's also brass sheet that is usually cheaper than copper. It too forms a nice chex

Do you have a source for the brass sheet?

Do you have a source for the brass sheet? McMaster Carr has it . I dont know if its the cheapest place around though? Heres a listing for it under the foils section,They also have it listed under shim stock and brass sheets http://www.mcmaster.com/#brass-foil/=hqwc7o
