Anyone want to take a guess as to today’s mystery centerfire cartridge? This turned up at the ASP and the ammo handler there doesn’t know what it is (and neither do I). A lot of confiscated ammo gets turned in, but most of it is 7.62x39 and 7.62x54R. This loner is a head scratcher. I took some measurements with a dial caliper. The bullet ogive seems to begin right after the case mouth, but as far as I can tell, the bullet dia is either .19” or .20".

Head stamp: DAG 05

Cart. OAL: 1.510”

Case length: 1.20”

Bullet dia: .19” or .20”

Outside neck dia: .205”

Case head dia: .308”

Case shoulder dia: .303”

My vote would go to the cartridge for the HK MP 7 PDW. DAG headstamp is Dynamit Nobel I believe.

Looking at the specs here (4.6x30mm) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HK_4.6%C3%9730mm the numbers are real close. Good call!

It came to mind since I watched an episode of Tac TV last night with Larry Vickers and he was talking about the rifle and shooting it.

Steel core is not illegal in U.S. in rifles only in pistols I found several 5.?X39 Russian rounds that misfired at the range all have steel cores .
