That pretty much says it all. Sometimes the pin sticks into the slide and does not return. What's the best cure for it?

Clean it.......

Replace the firing pin spring.....

Replace the firing pin......

check the pin channel for peening.......

There you go..... From easiest/cheapest to hardest/most expensive.

Dan could have added 'check the firing pin retainer plate' for peening. Some 1911s are dry fired a Lot. It can take its toll. -Ed

Yes check the firing pin stop, the plate the hammer hits,
clean the tunnel the pin goes in, check the pin body and pin it's self for bent,
Take the slide off and press on the pin with a easy touch, does it stick ?
Have you noticed elongated primer strikes? primer hits that look like the pin dragged on the primer -- if so you could be over sprung on the recoil spring, causing the slide to be out of time. Opening to fast before the pin is back in the slide. Over time this condition can damage a firing pin.
