I picked up some AL-5 and 8 cheap, want to use in 45 ACP, anyone know or know how to find the VMD for them?

Thanks

By VMD, I assume you mean the Volume Measure Density as used by Lee for a guide to setting their powder throwers or selecting their scoops?

Weigh one of your fired 45 ACP cases with the old primer still in.

Fill it with water and weigh again. Convert the difference to grams. One gram of water is 1 cubic centimeter of volume, at least for this exercise.

Dry the case and fill it with powder. Weigh the powder.

Divide the cc by the weight of the powder.

For example, wikipedia suggests the water capacity of a 45 ACP case is 25 grains, so 1.62 cc.

If the powder weighs, say, 28 grains, this would give you a VMD of 1.62/28 = 0.0575
