I suggest starting at 18.5 gr and work up to 20 gr. My 275 gr 429640HP over 20 gr 2400 in WW cases with a Fed 150 primer run 1481 fps out of my 8.4" Contender at a measured 34,800 psi(M43). That is right at the SAAMI MAP for the 44 Magnum. It is quite accurate load in my Contender. A zero of 1" high at 50 yards puts it dead on at 75 yards and 2" low at 100 yards. Of course with your 14" barrel velocity will be higher but you get the picture; 20 gr is a max load with that bullet over 2400.

would a start a load at 16.5 be too low to start with

I use 17.6 gr 2400 in my cva scout in 44 mag with the Lyman .429640 If I remember right its around 1400 fps. Shot a nice black tail doe in the neck it was a threw and threw found a small pice of the hp in the neck bone. I used 16-1 soft lead to tin.

glad I found this thread. Im going to use this in my Redhawk and a 629 smith. I'm thinking 19 grains will be my max, and i might not get there. Starting at 16.5 w 2400

I don't use 2400 but one of my friends says one of his most accurate loads with that boolit is 17 gr of 2400. He and I don't usually load our 44 mags very hot though, we came to the conclusion that 1200ish fps was kind of a sweet spot in our guns. Recoil is not to stiff either which is nice.

I loaded 17, 17.5, and 18 grains tonight. my hollow points weigh 172 grains, and I'mguessing 17.5 should be the most i wanna shoot. lol. we might try to run em up some more. Ill let you know how it goes.

we finally got to the range with and shot my scoped 2x Super Redhawk at 50 yards. no leading and a shiney barrel after 50 rounds. the 17.0 gr of 2400 shot a 4" group, 17.5 grains 4.5", and the 18 grain load at 3 ". now, i suck w a handgun, so I'm going to take some 18 gr, 18.5 and 19 grain loads, as well as a retired marine OSP troop with good eyes and a steady hand w me next time. lol

I was shooting 19.5 gr 2400 under a 265 gr bullet the other day out of my Ruger BHFT......quite a handful to say the least! 1st shot was at a grapefruit sized rock at about 40 yards. Took it dead center......had to find another rock for the next shot:-D
