Finally got the ball rolling on the .458 point form die. Plans have been shipped to custom reamer shop and I expect I'll see the reamer in 3-4 weeks.

Great bullets will be able to be formed from either 40 S&W or 45 ACP brass for jackets. We can get about 350 grains from the 40S&W and I hae made them up to 425 in the 45 ACP case.

Here is a look at what the bullet should look like when using sized down 45 ACP brass for jackets.

Thanks for your patience for those of you that have been waiting on this die. Good things are coming!

a 350 in the 40 brass is easy enough.
i make 44's in that weight from them now.
it wouldn't take much exposed lead to get to 375grs and then squeeze up from there for diameter.

Will it be possible to have different nose punch to obtain a wider meplat or would that require custom cut die?

he'd need to make/buy a new cutter for the nose shape.

Any diameter meplat is possible. The ogive shape will stay the same as the one pictured and the nose would get a bit shorter the more I open up the meplat/ejection pin/hp nose punch etc. Very easy for me to do. My reamer has a .250 nose to it so if we want larger meplat all I have to do is bore teh .250 hole of the die to next larger size. Piece of cake! Remember....Any thing is possible. You let me know what you want and if I can do it I will.

At the moment it is very easy for me to offer nose meplat diameters of .250, .281 and .312.

I'll make the new drawing to illistrate what it would look like and what the nose length would be for the larger meplats. It will take me a few days to post it but I'll be able to offer larger meplats no problem.

Looks exactly like what I will be wanting to make, the 350gr from .40 brass sounds perfect...

I will be keeping an eye on this, for sure!

I will be keeping my eye on this one,.458 bullets here in Australia are so bloody expensive.
Good one.

Here is a thread as well on the progress of the .458s that also lists previous 458 threads.

Great bullets can be made from either the 40 S&W or the 45 ACP

I'll be putting some dies together just as soon and as fast as I can.

Good shooting

What are you using to make lead cores, a mold or lead wire?

Nice!

I was wondering how you have been. I would love to see some pics of the loaded round. Also if you recover any bullets.

Good Shooting and Swage On!

Can any one suggest the core size(Dia) for the 45 acp shell casings. I have been trying to do the math to make cores and the max length is about 1" in a lee aluminum mold, however the diameter is in question since the case tapers inside and the exterior is reduced to .458 which changes the cross section and the internal diameter. It was suggested to place a couple of lead shot in the bottom to eliminate the air space. I know there are .44 lead bullets being used but I do not have any any molds in that cal.
Thanks,
Bill
