If one of you guys buys one of these, how about using it on the pitted bore of
a milsurp rifle.

I think that would be cool as hell. To those newbie military surplus buyers and
owners, it would shed some light on what we sometimes have to deal with when
working with this type of bore-condition.

If you will note, the endoscope says ... Free Shipping -- ePacket delivery from Hong Kong

Here's the Endoscope on Deal Extreme in Hong Kong and it says ... Item is temporarily sold out.

BTW, 0.6cm is 0.23" so will view the bores of 25 caliber up

What diameter is the cable? Need to know this as to what caliber is the smallest that you can look at.

It looks like 30 caliber and up from the picture.

It gives the camera dia as .6cm(.2362") and by the picture it looks like the cable is smaller. Maybe .257 and up??

I bought a different type and paid over $50.
It is OK but not very clear.
The problem I see with the small snake type is they only look straight ahead and if you get the attachments that let you see at 45 or 90 degrees, the attachment is way too big for most barrels.

What operating systems drivers does this have? I am wondering if it works under Win7 only, or there are other drivers such as Mac or Linux. I know it says Win98-Win7, but there sometimes are drivers under different OS than specified. If this was a regular webcam chip, supported by Video4Linux, it would work.

Would be interesting to use this with a smartphone too.

Check Out www.rvbprecision.com

I have some bore scope pictures of a terrible pitted barrel in the 1873 article.

is that the best image it will give of a bore?

The biggest problem with high magnificaton devices is the higher the power, the shorter the focal length.
What that means is with a high power scope a very short area is in focus.
If you go to the 1853 article you can see that there is a ring around the photo of only 1/8 inch of the bore that is in focus, and that makes looking closely at a bore and looking at photos, almost an art form.
A mirror on the probe so the entire photo is in focus, is a huge plus for looking closely at a bore with small defects.

I made a mirror for my digital endoscope. I needed to look at the side of the bore rather than along its length. You can find a youtube video of this procedure here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EoLK034y5JQ

There is quite a wide choice of them on eBay now, and many have the diameter specified. Limited depth of field is pretty well inescapable with any of these instruments

Even the more expensive ones cost less than the amount by which it could enable you to talk down the price of one gun. They must really be one in the eye for anybody who bought a full-price optical lab endoscope just before they appeared.

That series of videos (three of them) is cool for people without machining experience, but for we others, it's just an excuse for the guy (crusty) to show off his home shop. And, we are definitely envious of him!

Picked one up last week, but I haven't yet put it down a bore... it is 0.217 diameter, so it will work from 22cal up, which covers all of my weapons... I'll let you know how it works tomorrow.. it is capable of HD video and cost about $30 from ebay...

I got one of these 7 mm jobs on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007ROP3FO/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Works well with live & with still records. Unfortunately it doesn't see close up enough ( I will be adding a 5mm dia Convex lens to get closer but it does show you stuff in the bore Here is an image of my JP. Sauer 8mm 98 Bore that is very pitted

picked up a medical borescope at a auction for $1, had to jury rig a light scource for the fiber optic cable but the result is awesome. no more wondering if a barrel clean or fouled, smooth/rough, cylinder alignment on revolvers, cylinder in auto engine, allways learning something new.

I've always wanted to get one of these.
Looking for one that can be used from 6.5 and up.
5.5 would be good to, but I'm not sure how clear the picture would be.
Searched ebay, but I really didn't find anything.
Gotta be cheap. I'm poor.
Suggestions????

Any of the cheap ones will look forward and work ok but you have to make a mirror to go into the bore in front of it and bend the view to look sideways - not tough to do if you can work metal at all, just steel rod right diameter and saw it at 45 degrees and sand/polish the cut end.

The supereyes Borescopes are 7mm (.284) and that goes over the end of it making it larger still.

I'm in the process of writing an article on two different, el-chepo, bore cameras I bought and tested. Until the article is released there are tons of pictures and videos here:

As you can see in my post above. I've done extensive research on these little bore scopes. ALL of them are really not suitable for what we want to do. They simply do not have the proper focal length for the tight areas we want to look at. I had a Hawkeye that was simply fantastic and you could see the smallest scratch in a bore. But the Hawkeye was a Direct View device. You were actually looking directly through the fiber with your eye.......not a crappy , low resolution, 30 frame per second , video image. And the cost was 20 times what these Ebay cameras cost.

The best way to use them is with a bore fitting slug with a piece of white paper on the end. A thin piece of copper wire to push the "slug" along before the camera lens. The light reflects off the slug and creates the proper illumination some distance from the lense at the proper focal length. If you simply tape the copper wire to the camera end, you can slide it in and out for the appropriate focal length.

One of the cameras I bought came with a 45 degree mirror that was useless as it needed the subject to be about 2 inches away from the mirror. Might work OK in a 10ga Shotgun or a cannon!

I'm going to order a Lyman camera at some point and will report back.......

Be Safe!
