I have some loads for this powder in .40S&W. Anyone have any experince using this powder? Snagged 4lb of it along with a lb. of 2400 and a lb. of HS-6 for $45.00 from a guy getting out of reloading. Going to use it up one way or another. Might even do some research to see if there are loads out ther for my .303 Brit, .308 and 30-06 using cast boolits.

I have used 800-X on a limited basis. Only problem was that it didn't flow through the powder measure as well as most. Believe I used it mostly in .357s and had no problems with the performance. Wouldn't use it again unless it came at a bargain price.

I've used it in 45 ACP and it made some really good loads. 8.0 grs with a 200 gr hard cast did real well for me. I got the load from an old Ken Waters favorite loads article on the .45 ACP in Handloader magazine. If I remember right it was the best cast bullet powder he tried and that was in a Gold Cup.

I have used it only in my .41's --it did a fine job --a little dirty-- I have also used in my S&W 40 but off do not remember the load --I like the stuff

I use the same 8.0 grain load of 800X, but in .45 Colt caliber w/255 grain cast boolits.

Very accurate. :Fire: :drinks:

I find it works well with alot of calibers and shotgun loads, that being said, I would think gravel would meter more uniformally. It's unfortunate because I like the versatility. I know this doesn't help you now but I'm trying Ramshot True Blue, powder burn rate is very close to 800X and it flows through my Dillon powder measure like water.

I've used it with good luck in a 10mm. It really seemed to be the powder for trying to wring all the power out of it I could. And yes, I have seen powder drop from a measure better than this stuff.

Accurate. Worked great. It has real authority. It's also filthy dirty.

I've used it in .357, .38 spec and 9mm. It doesn't meter well.

I've used up about 5 lbs of 800-X in the .44 Special and the .44 Magnum with cast bullets, generally about half or one grain more than a Unique load you might put together. I do find that it burns a bit more dirty, and seems to leave occasional grains entirely unburned in the case and bore. Power and accuracy are fine.

I'm also now experimenting with case forming loads for the .303 Savage, using Your suggestion o f sleeving the base of .30-30 cases with a ring cut from a .40 S&W case. So far I've tried 12.0 gr. 800-X with the 311291 GC 175 gr. bullet, getting a nice GP load at 50 - 100 yards and formed cases. I have made up 50 to shoot, but the weather has been too nasty to go to the range.

Thanks fellows. I am gong to burn some of it up in my .45Colt using the 8 grain load. Stuff sure meters like gravel but heh almost free is almost free.

26Charlie, are you putting a good crimp on the bullet with the 800X, if not try that to see if cleans things up.

Robertbank, you should get fine accuracy with that 8.0 grains, it works for me. Here again, put a crimp on it.

Better to get a smaller expander die than to use a harder crimp. Cases last considerably longer and the resulting "crimp" is much more uniform. Use just enough roll/taper crimp to bevel in the case edge using this method. ... felix

That's exactly the way to crimp it a good crimp. :drinks:
