Going to be shooting a new 10mm soon.Think I'll start with wsf and some 170 and 180 lazercast boolits I've had around for a long time.My old colt 10mm liked blue dot and hs-6 with xtp j-words.It liked universal with cast but I don't use it anymore, went back to unique. What would the 10mm experts reccommend I try in my DW 10mm.Probably get a mold for it also.

Some of the best loads were from John Taffin;

170-grain JHP bullets ahead of 13 grains of AA#7 yields 1324 fps.

I wonder if you can get a cast 170-grain bullet (with the appropriate lubrication) to duplicate this performance?

The very hottest velocities are had with AA#9 as a general rule.

But, my 10mm get stoked with blue dot and unique because it works well, is very versatile, and I have lots on hand.

I shoot 205 grain RFN and 175 grain SWC's from my 10mm's. My 1911 is finicky about the 175's. If they are over 1.245" COL I start to see occasional feed issues.

On a side note, if you are going to run a steady diet of full-power/near full-power 10mm loads in a 1911, I would suggest an EGW flat bottom firing pin stop with no radius, and a 25 lb mainspring.

Don't forget hodgdon longshot.. It works very well in the 10 also.

I've had good luck with 800x as far as top velocity and accuracy with 170 condoms. The downside is that it meters like gravel.

Longshot is my favorite. It trades only a little max velocity in exchange for metering like water.

WSF does a nice job if you don't need max velocity. Makes for good plinking rounds. But that's what the .40s&w is for, imo.

So the short list is:
800-x -great but meters crappy - maybe the fastest fps with lowest pressure from what I've seen
AA9 - great with 175gr+ and meters well - not quite as fast as 800x, but close!
Longshot - great and meters well - not sure about the fps you can get with this one
Blue Dot - pretty good and meters well, but dirty
AA7 - meters good, clean, down on fps vs the others
WSF- good mid-speed powder

Did I miss any? The one's I've used personally are highlighted.

My DW likes Power Pistol with 180gr rfn load up to max.

My Eclipse 5" gives 1310fps with 9.3 gr. LongShot under a Sierra 180gr. Sportsmaster JHP. Groups very well at 50 yards. Power Pistol yields 1230 with 8.3gr. on same boolit. These are with WLP primers, and both are .2gr. under max listed, so work up to them carefully for your gun. Both give very good groups. Haven't tried cast yet.

Tried some wsf with the 170 swc and they did 1 and a half inch at 25 yards.180 XTP's shot real good with power pistol and win sub-sonic shot 1 inch groups.Going to try some more WSF with the 180 oregon trail boolits next.WSF shoots pretty good with the 170's.

180 oregon trail shoots just as good with wsf.Probably going to use this powder for cast.Might try some longshot for j-words.Power pistol is accurate with 180 XTP, shoots 1 1/3 inch at 25 yards with 8.7 grains.155's shot good also. The RZ runs flawless and accurate.I'm liking 10mm just as much as the grand old 45acp.
