I went to the range yesterday and got to test some. The 220gr beagled old army mold ahead of 7.5gr of bullseye was a little disappointing as the best I could muster was about 4.5 inches at 50 yards. I'm not going to give up on it just yet, but it seems some more work with powder/primer combinations is in order.
The 500gr turned out to be a good load. I was well pleased with 5 shot 2.5 inch groups from it at 50 yards. The kick from the 14 inch contender was tolerable as the load was using 11.5gr of Unique. This was the Lee 459-500-3r cast from WW with a little added tin (my 1lbs 95/5 to one pot WW during smelting) lubed with 50/50. That big spitzer may turn out to be a good bullet for the contender with its complete lack of throat in the factory barrels.
Unfortunately, it started raining harder as the day went on and chronographing the load and 100 yard testing had to be postponed until another day.
