Back in the 3rd & 4th week of June 1973,
the last few Platoons of recruits were walking around on Parris Island were carrying M-14s.
The kids that came after that got handed a rat gun.
Lucky me,,, I arrived there on June 19th.

Seeing that project, Its all I can do not to wet my britches.

Ohh, are ya sure that isn't a Garand style M1A reciever on there?

Big difference between a Ruger Mini 14 (223Rem) and a M14/M1A (308 Win)

You almost never hear about how accurate Mini 14's are.

I will keep my Springfield Super Match.

Nice job, Duke. You really out did yourself on that one. Reminds me of boot camp at PI when we went to the rifle range for the very first time. I fell in love with that rifle then and eventhough I don't own one, I still want one.

The only thing keeping me from getting one is the price. They are simply too pricey for me so I got the next best thing, an M1 Garand. BC

Nice!
Here in Canada we can get the chinese m-14 type rifle's for around $450.
But that stock is something to behold!

To me that knot in front of the mag well makes the rig look very military. Looks great!

Can we be privileged to see the pictures of the inletting on the stock and handguard?
And how about checkering? Maybe it's just me, it makes the product look and feel complete and improves handling dramatically.

I am pretty sure it is just me, but I hate checkering

I think it REALLY detracts from nice wood, and I have never needed it.

when I have shot Big guns, the checkering bothered my hands. Smooth well shaped stocks hold just fine.

and as I often shoot with a deerskin glove on when hunting, the glue stick grip of the deerskin makes checkering moot

one other thing I've noticed in the GunRags, is the poor quality checkering on the custom guns being showcased as Guild Guns.... the close up pics show sometimes brutal inletting and checkering...

I've seen MUCH better by folks on these forums.

You pick it up from the gun smith yet Duke?

You gotta tell these guys what he is doing/did to it.

Yes, got it back.

He "unitized" the front band, which is a major fix for accuracy.

He also did some clearance adjusting on some parts.

He bedded the receiver.

Installed a bipod adapter, tweaked the break on the trigger, and changed out some tired springs.

Runs slick and very accurate

If anyone needs M1A work done, this guy is the best:

Barbie and I were just hanging out and we got a response so I thought I'd put this up.
On the bolt conversion

I had Bruce Dow in Dade City FL do it for me. Dow Arms. Excellent M1/M14 smith.

Here's what she will do at 100 yards. Pardon my grouping my eyesight
is shot. The load was el cheapo 147 grain Winchester bullets and El
Cheapo military pull down powder.

That may be your motto but what does Barbie say about that?:popcorn:

I heard that Boyds is gauging interest to the stocks they do not carry.
There is a form to fill out on their web site. It does not let you specify what kind of stock you are requesting, but you can do so by replying to an auto-generated email you would receive. I did and someone replied to me via email that they would discuss the possibility of making an M14 stock I wanted.

The form is called Product request form here http://www.boydsgunstocks.com/Can-t-find-your-gun-s/164.htm

I had a buddy who refinished his M1 Garrand and Mini 14 to extremely polished presentation rifles. The hand rubbed tung oil finish looked like 1" thick glass and the bluing do deep it looked like a dark mirror. The rifle above reminded me of my buddy's handiwork and makes me want to refinish my 180 model Mini 14. On another note, I saw a set of wood stocks on an AR platform that was given a low gloss finish. I can't help but think a deep gloss finish on that wood contrasted by the dark flat finish would make an interesting combo. Frank
