ALFLOYD / Lafaun Floyd

Here is a list of the swaging dies that I make and sell here on Cast Boolits.
These dies all work on a reloading press, I use a RCBS Rockchuck.
Shipping is not include.

First is the de-rim die, to derim 22 LR brass. It makes a jacket that is 0.222 inch in dia. -------- $75.00

http://castboolits.gunloads.com/picture.php?albumid=734&pictureid=5369

Second is the Lead Extrusion Die to make 0.185 to 0.312 inch dia. lead wire from soft lead cast boolits --------$75.00
It helps a lot to put a longer handle on your press to use this die.
Extra size heads are $30.00 each

http://castboolits.gunloads.com/picture.php?albumid=734&pictureid=5524

Third is the Core Squirt/Swage die, for 0.195 dia cores -----------$120.00
I can make them for other sizes also.

http://castboolits.gunloads.com/picture.php?albumid=734&pictureid=4484

Fourth is the Core Seat die -------------$120.00

I do not have a photo of one at the moment.
Looks a lot like the core squirt die, but without the bleed hole and sized to fit the jacket.

I DO NOT make an ogive/point form die, at the present time.

These dies are made to work with a stock reloading press. If you have a threaded ram in your press, I can make the bottom punch to fit your threaded ram instead if the shell holder slot.
There is an additional charge for swagging press's that have a non standard shell holder.
They will also work with the auto-eject system that BT Sniper sells.

I try to get all orders out to the customer within 2 weeks of payment.

I also make and sell lead wire. Many sizes to fit your needs. Made from lead with a BHN of 7.0.
$2.75 per lb plus shipping.
I have empty fired 22LR brass for $2.00 per lb plus shipping.

Thanks:
Lafaun

I'm currently making my extruded wire for my .224 bullet cores using a Lafaun extrusion die. I use 183 grain .40 Lee TL cast boolits as the raw material for that project. I TL the outside of the boolits first, and then place them on the top of the bottom punch, and send them into the die. When the punch finally bottoms out, I add another boolit, and the wire keeps coming out the top.

He's a good guy to work with.

Is it necessary to lube the bullet prior to extruding?

DukeInFlorida
05-11-2012, 12:23 PM
No, but I found that it allows for less pressure.

I'm interested in the lead wire die made from cast lead bullets. Will this work on my walnut hill? How do want payment?

alfloyd
05-11-2012, 07:15 PM
Yes, it will work on the Walnut Hill press. I need some measurments first. How much distance from the top of the ram to the bottom of the top plate when the ram in at the top of the stroke?
What size is the ram threaded? What size is the top plate threaded? Do you have adaptors to use 7/8X14 dies for the top plate?

Send me a PM and we can work out a plan.

Just curious on this, I notice all the lock nutz have set screws. Are the other type available on request? The type that are split and a screw squeezes it together, and for some reason I cant think of what they are called.

alfloyd
05-11-2012, 07:24 PM
I have some lock nuts that are split with a lock screw. If you want, I can put them on your dies.
I can also use a lock nut that has no set screw, if you want.

Now alfloyd,

OK now it's your turn, do you have any idea how hard it is to bit my lip, look at my empty wallet, look at the wife with a smile when she asks me "YOUR NOT SPENDING ANY MONEY ARE YOU" in that authoritative tone of hers and say "NO".

Between you and BT a guy can go broke way to fast.:veryconfu

And if she ever found out I ordered something new I'ld be having to :kissarse: FOREVER.

I have never been quiet about saying how I came across my squirt die or lead wire. Glad to see that Lafaun is starting to offer this out loud as well.

I have been more than happy with the things that I can get from him. Nice to see this thread started Lafaun!

I don't swage yet, but that lead extrusion die is just plain awesome and a great idea. Kind of one of those Doh! Why didn't I think of that items.

Both the top and bottom are 7/8 14.. but you would want an adapter for the bottom. To raise it up and for a normal reloading shell holder. Richard makes a very nice one. The little arm is for the ejected primers.

Bad News:

I have had a major lathe failure. My lathe is broken and the replacement will not be here till the first of June. All orders will be filled as soon as the new lathe is up and running.

If you want a refund, I will gladly send it, otherwise they will start to ship around the 7th of June.

I might be able to use a friend's lathe, but that is unknown at the moment.

Sorry for the delay.

No problem. It happens. When ever you get the stuff, will be good enough for me.

Has anyone tried the dillon case lube for the cores prior to extruding them? It is only lanolin and alcohol. I thought of this today as I looked at a pile of cast 44 boolits lying on my towel. I was hoping this would be a quick and easy way to lube a lot of boolits at once.

DukeInFlorida
05-18-2012, 09:24 PM
Yes, the Dillon case lube is lanolin based, and would work well for the extruding of wire.

I make my own version: A quart of 99% isopropyl alcohol (also called "dry gas" at Walmart, cheap!) and a generous amount of anhydrous lanolin from Randy rat, and shake well in a dollar store spray bottle. Spray as you would with the Dillon lube, and allow the alcohol to evaporate.

I make a quart of the spray lube for under $5.

It helps immensely with the extruding.

Thanks Duke. I make my own as well, same way. Excellent on brass. Just made a batch about a week ago.

You should have them by Monday.

These are the first ones I got done on my new lathe. The other people's dies will be going out in the next few days.

Thanks for being understanding with the problems that I have had with production.

Thanks again:

Lafaun, on my way home Friday my wife calls me and asks "Are you expecting something that clanks from Utah?" I had to control my right foot!

They're beautiful. I can't wait for my press to get here so I can start running some cores!

Got my package today, the threads do fit the corbin press.
I have to get the corbin press mounted, where is an issue. Already have five presses mounted in the man lair, which one is going out the door?
Thank you,
Mark

Ditimar, aka Gotin:

Your wire extrusion die is done and on it's way.
I made a mod to the wire extrusion that is better in my opinion.
The top is removable and replaceable so you can get different sizes top plugs
and make different size wire.

See photo:

Hope you like it.

Lafaun,

Will your derim die also work on 22 magnum casings?

No. The 22 mag brass is larger in dia and thicker in the wall.

Thanks

alfloyd, I sent you a private message awhile ago. No answer yet. Are you still making these dies? Maybe you are and the demand for them is through the roof like it is for everything else and you havn't had time to pull yourself away from your lathe to respond!

Thanks,

Lafaun, in one of your responses you stated that the 22mag brass is thicker...would it be possible to make a die to use those cases? I like the idea of making my own .223 boolits but would like a thicker jacket so they would be a little less "volitile" and shoot better in a faster twist barrel (1 in 8).

Don't throw that away, heat it up with a couple of oz's of caster oil, mix with spoon and put in small jars, makes great swaging lube.

"kind if press do I need to run?"

I make dies that work on a regular reloading die and a style that works on a modified Rock Chuck press.
