I have one very similar to that also made in 1918 by Colt. Mine was accurized by the AMU back in the 60's and I have a dot sight mounted on the slide. It's a "wad" gun that I've owned since the 70's and it will still group less than 3"@ 50 yds. I really enjoy owning and shooting my old war horse and wondering where it's been.

It is unfortunate that it was refinished, backstrap replaced , Grips changed , and parts changed. As a Colt Collector it breaks My heart.
I would put a value of about $1000 to $1200 on it just as a shooter...
If it was mint and all original it would be worth $6,000 up.

I have to concur with Mooseman--replacement stocks, poorly refinished, parts swapped--it has zero collector value. It might bring a grand, but I can't see it myself--I wouldn't pay over 800 for it.

I have one made in 1913 that is the best 1911 I have, it was made for commercial sales and has the bright blue finish. Great trigger on it. But I can see that the hammer and backstrap have been changed on the one in the pictures. Along with the grips. I took my original grips off just because they are getting a little worn and I like shooting my old colt.
