Thank you guy's.I'm about to strip this ole girl down & make her better
looking than new.She alway's shot great, but I never realized she would
be something to be such as a collectors item.

I have alway's love this rifle, but now there is a place for her in the gun cabnet.

Well, yeah. The varnish leaves a lot to be desired as far as finish goes.
Were it me, I would replace the nosecap, brown the furniture, and go with a period stain and finish.
Track of the Wolf has some good stuff, and Boiled Linseed Oil is one of my favourites.
They are worth the effort.
You might look into replaceing the rear sight also. I did a dovetail on mine and set in the adjustable Hawken Sight. With my old eyes, it works well for me. Kinda like a large aperature sight.
Good luck.
Take your time and make it happen!

Those old CVA Mountain Rifles started many a BP shooter into their ML addiction for which there is no cure.

Hang Fire you are so right my friend. It was my first, & maybe thats
why I have held on to her.I shot this thing at so many shoots in
the day.

She never let me down & led my down this path ever since.:bigsmyl2:

.....a CVA Mountain Rifle finished setting the hook on me more years ago than I care to remember. My oldest son shoots it now and he's had it for 15 or more years. Dadgummed dirty, stinky, fouling, smoky stuff.....been fighting the affliction near 40 years. At least it isn't terminal.

I have a .45 Douglas barrel, early stock and a few pieces of hardware of an old CVA Mountain rifle. When I can get a breech plug and lock I'll certainly rebuild that baby.

There's a guy on the muzzleloadingforum that has a Mountain rifle missing a few parts for sale.

I slow rust blued the barrel & refinished the stock.

I took her out yesterday, for the first time in 30 years & she still
patterns great.I need to reajust the sights a little for she is shooting
to the left some but the group is very tight.
