Well, I'm tapped. I have become convinced around here that it's a heckuva lot about the hobby itself. In the end I'll bet I save money by reloading and casting but not a huge amount because:

1) I'll shoot more than normal, and
2) The hobby itself will take hold and be a part of the fun. It will entail searching for lead, buying various and sundry equipment, etc.

Oh well, I'll hopefully enjoy the ride :)

You don't save any money. You just get to shoot a lot more, plus you will find lots of ways to spend even more money.

I like to take 30 and 50 cal ammo cans to the range full of ammo. You can shoot all you want.

It's defiantly a fun ride. We are always spending a hundred dollars trying to save ten....[smilie=l:

I don't shoot more because of the savings of reloading. I shoot all I want BECAUSE of the savings. Without reloading, I would have to shoot less than I want. I started reloading 40 plus years ago because I couldn't afford to shoot without it. My reloading and casting has BECAME a hobby when I started owning more than one bullet weight per caliber.

Whatever the cause, whatever the reasoning, Casting, Reloading, and Shooting is a fine way to spend some time.

If you live close to Owensboro, you can go see Jeff at GI Brass and get some milsurp powder to help save $$.

If you are going to do this to save money then get a flintlock rifle, a round ball mold and stop there! Otherwise you will end up like most of us with dozens of molds, sizing dies, various lubes, and many bottles of different powders.

Do I save money? I don't think so but when I see a box of jacketed bullets which cost $25 for 50 I just smile and pick up one of my molds. For me, it's the satisfaction of saying that I made it myself.

I need to get going the tire place told me they'd sell me WW for 0.25/lb and I can buy 50/50 solder at 5 lbs. for 71.66. So, if I'm right, 45 lbs WW + 5 lbs 50/50 solder = 50 lbs Lyman #2.

So, 81.91 for ~50 lbs Lyman #2, I suppose. . . if the WW are all GTG
