I just purchased this rifle about a month ago and got a pretty good deal on it. Problem is the front sight was broken off. No big deal I think to myself, surely Winchester can help. So I call them up and they send me a set of sights, I got two, just in case I broke it off again. Thing is, it shoots about two feet low at about 50 yards! The sight they sent me is .260. Not correct. My rifle has the shorter barrel, 16 inches. Not octagon. I see two other options for the front sight, they are .410 and .425. I. Leaning towards the .410, because the .425 is listed with a 24 inch barrel. I just don't want to blow another 18$ bucks after shipping on a set of wrong sights.

Long story short anyone know which is correct?

You're thinking you need a taller front sight when it's shooting low? Isn't that backwards?

If you are shooting low at 50 yds you need a shorter front sight not taller. Just out of curiosity where are you measuring from, should be from the top of the sight to the bottom of the DT. Your .260 number doesn't sound right to me. I don't remember exactly but my .357 94 AE front sight (20" bbl)is in the .400 range.

I apologize. I was shooting high. I had to aim low to hit wear I was aiming.

If you are going to order a sight get the tallest one, you can always file it down. If I were you I'd pop your short sight out and ask a welder to lay a bead on top of it to build it up. Then I would file, shape and cold blue it.

get you some paper tape and fold it over the sight try it. in a tall v shape.
fold that down, try it. or trim with some scissors.
etc..
after a few shots you can measure and know what you need.

I like your thinking as well. Looks like this weekend I will be bringing some note cards taped to a barrel. I'll let you guys know how it turns out.

I wish I was this smart. ;)

The front sight on my 20-year old, round barrel, 94AE .44 Mag Trapper Carbine is about 14mm (0.55"); it's rather hard to measure with the tools I have when installed.

That is what I have. I appreciate it. If you don't mind.

Not that I can't put the paper on.

If you want to make a very good guess measure the distance between the back of the front sight and the notch on the rear sight. Multiply that times the amount of change that you want to make on the target and then divide that amount by the distance from the front sight to the target all in inches. It will be very close to what you need. What I would do is readjust the rear sight to about the middle of the vertical adjustment, shoot at the desired range and measure the amount of change that you want to make that way you will have some adjustment leeway on your rear sight just in case that someday you want to change your loads.
