Anyone have any suggestions for loads in .243; gonna run them in a Mauser 98 so COAL isn't an issue...

My go to load with the 95 RCBS is 12 gr 2400. I am not sure that the 498 will stabilize in a 243 because of it's length or if that is an old wives tale. I would start @ 10.5 gr and work up to less than 13.5 gr. If there is a sweet spot it should be in that range.

Hello, badge176. What is the twist in your .243? The older Ideal handbooks list this as an experimental mould..stating that it may be too long to stabilize in some guns. I use it in an original Winchester-Lee 1895 straight-pull sporter..with it's tight 7 1/2" twist there is no problem.

You mean the 245499 don't you .22-10-45? (Not much reference on that one, but it was the long experiment that didn't work, except in the Lees.). The 498 is a semi-spitzer that sure didn't like to go fast in my 6x45. The boolit has a lot of unsupported nose, even in my .233 bored Obermeyer. Since most modern .243/6mms have a bore diameter of .237", there would be even less support in them. Get all you can into the throat.

I thought the Lyman #245498 was almost identical to the RCBS 95 grain bullet.
Stabilization should not be any issue in standard 1-10 twist 243 Win. Slow twist in older 6mm Rem wouldn't work.
