What is a REALLY nice pre-Model 27 S&W with a 3.5" bbl worth these days?

I'm looking at a friend's and thinking about buying or trading for it.

NOTE: I have corrected this, I had originally said it was a M27, and it is
not.

For me I would be willing to pay $700-$1000 depending on condition, lineage, lock/pre-lock, how bad I wanted it.

I hope that helps. If not I can go get the gun values book out.

Actually, I looked closer and talked with the owner some more, and it is a pre-27
N-frame .357.

Really nice, very high polish, 3.5" bbl and letters to 1950, with that length barrel,
and shows zero holster wear, and very little use. Cyl mouths are .358 and there
is zero thread constriction.

I would pay quite a bit for that one. Blue book value aside if It were on gunbroker I would bid until it was mine.

Pre 27 S&W are about as close as I'll ever get to a Registered magnum.

If you get her please post pictures.

A friend of mine just sold a pre-27 with a 5-inch barrel for $1200, I would think that the 3 1/2 inch version would be that and more.

The 3.5 is about a 25% premium over the longer barrels. In Excellent condition, you probably can't touch it for $1,500.

$1200-$1500 for top condition.

$500-700 in Canada, because they have a shorter than 4.2 " barrel and only "Grandfathered" owners can qwn, buy, and sell them.

I spent some time today and yesterday and regardless of all the throats being .358 and
everything being tight and no thread pinch on the bbl - it won't shoot for sour apples.

How about 3-7" with various known-good .38 Spl and .357 mag loads? Just to make
sure I wasn't having a bad day I quickly shot 7 through my 586 and 5 went into 3/4",
so it is the gun.

I think I'm just going to pass it by. A recrowning and recutting the forcing cone just might
make it shoot, but not for what I would have to pay for it. Pretty face but can't deliver
the goods.

Now that is sad to hear , I'd expect more from a revolver of that era .
